The final race of the 2023 MotoGP season is upon us as the riders head to Valencia, Spain for Sunday’s Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana. The winner of the MotoGP Valencia GP could determine which rider takes home the 2023 MotoGP Riders’ Championship, as 21 points separates the top two riders. Last year’s MotoGP champ, Francesco Bagnaia, is in first place in the points standings. In second place is Jorge Martin. Here is some information on Sunday’s Valencia GP before we discuss the betting odds, picks, and predictions for the race, which takes place at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Jorge Lorenzo has the most MotoGP wins on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo circuit with four. He is also the last rider to win back-to-back races on the course, picking up victories in 2015 and 2016. Last year, Alex Rins won the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana, with Brad Binder finishing in second and Jorge Martin picking up third place. Francesco Bagnaia has the course record for fastest lap, which he set in 2021 when he won the race.

Jorge Martin

With the Valencia GP being the final race of the 2023 MotoGP season, Jorge Martin is the only rider who can unseat Francesco Bagnaia as the champion. The 25-year-old, who finished his first two MotoGP seasons in ninth place, is 21 points behind Bagnaia heading into Sunday’s Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana. The Prima Pramac Racing rider is the betting favorite this weekend after third in this race last year and second in 2021.

Martin had been dominant since the 2023 Catalan motorcycle Grand Prix. He has placed fifth, fourth, third, and second and had three wins since that race. The only race where he didn’t place in the top five in the past eight starts was when he failed to finish in Indonesia. However, last week did not go well for Martin as he finished a disappointing 10th in Qatar, which lost him a fair amount of ground in the points race.

Francesco Bagnaia

Reigning MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia increased his points lead over Jorge Martin in the riders’ standings last week when he finished in second place at the Qatar GP. Despite his lead and six wins this year, the 26-year-old is not a lock to repeat as MotoGP champion, but a lot needs to go right for Martin to unseat Bagnaia at the top of the points race this year.

Not long ago, Bagnaia had a 66-point lead over the MotoGP pack. That cushion made the Ducati rider an overwhelming favorite to win his second straight MotoGP title. However, Bagnaia hit a rough patch between Week 11 and Week 13 of the 2023 MotoGP season. During those three weeks, he did not start Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, finished third at the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, and crashed out of the IndianOil Grand Prix of India. The defending champion has bounced back in his six most recent races, winning the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, finishing as the runner-up in Indonesia, AustraliaThailand, and Qatar, and placing third in Malaysia

Bagnaia has shown resiliency this year as he looks to become the first MotoGP rider since Marc Marquez to repeat as champion. Marquez won four years in a row between 2016 and 2020.

Bagnaia placed ninth last year in the Valencia GP after winning in 2021.

Fabio Di Giannantonio

Currently in 12th place in the MotoGP points race, Fabio Di Giannantonio is coming off his first win as a MotoGP rider. The 25-year-old member of the Gresini Racing MotoGP racing team picked up the victory last week in Qatar. The win was only his second top-three finish of the year, as Di Giannantonio placed third in Australia. He followed that finish by placing ninth in Thailand and Malaysia.

Di Giannantonio placed 15th in the 2022 running of the Valencia GP. Considering the stakes in this weekend’s competition, I would put him down as a monster-betting underdog to win back-to-back races.

Best betting picks for the 2023 Valencia GP

Jorge Martin needs a win at this race if he hopes to catch Francesco Bagnaia to win the 2023 MotoGP championship; with that, expect him to do everything he can to pick up those points. That could result in Martin having a good day or a terrible day. We know that Bagnaia is also under pressure in this race, but he has been racing very well under those same circumstances as of late. Further, Bagnaia presents more betting value than Martin in this race. The reigning MotoGP champ, Francesco Bagnaia, is the pick to win the Valencia GP.
