When will we be able to shart positive Texas sports betting news for local supporters to enjoy? That’s up in the air, as it’s unknown what will happen with the next attempt to get things legalized. With legislation not meeting in 2024, that means we have to wait until 2025 to see if history can be made in the state. Having said that, more people continue to show support. This includes the big update that a former Texas Governor joined the push for legal sports betting.
That’s right, Rick Perry first showcased public support for sports betting back in February, but he has continued to let everyone know that he’s a proponent. Sports betting is something that Texas has been trying to get done for a while now, but nothing has been given the green light. This is something that Perry is far too familiar with, as he’s still quite involved in politics in the state. That’s why he’s intrigued about sports betting.
Perry and so many others how much sports betting revenue could be on the way for the state if things get approved in 2025. Texas is one of the biggest states in the USA and they have tons of talented sports teams. Fans would surely love to bet on the Dallas Cowboys, one of the most popular NFL teams on the planet. Heck, team owner Jerry Jones would also like to see that happen, as he’s been pushing for legal betting for quite some time.
It will be interesting to see what happens in ’25, but keep in mind that a new sports betting bill has already been pre-written. The wheels have been in motion for 2025 and multiple parties are getting together to try and bring the best bill possible for both the House and Senate to take a look at. Having Perry in their corner is amazing news. Will it prove to make a difference? We’re hoping the answer to that question is yes.
I joined @SBAllianceTX because it’s time to end the offshore, illicit market for sports betting and create a consumer protected online sports betting market in Texas. https://t.co/5IApXsej8I #LetUsVote pic.twitter.com/FY9TsQeHRM

Rick Perry supporting the Betting Alliance is massive
It goes without saying, but Rick Perry supporting the Betting Alliance is massive. Every single pro team in Texas (there are 11 of them) has helped form the Texas Sports Betting Alliance, which shows how seriously things are being taken. The Cowboys, Texans, Mavericks, Stars and others want to do their part in trying to get betting legalized. Should that go down, these organizations will surely benefit from it as well.
Both Jones and Mark Cuban have stated multiple times that they’re hopeful that their fanbases will be able to place legal bets on their teams sooner rather than later. Why should people in Texas have to leave the state to place wagers on their favorite local teams? It doesn’t make sense and that kind of money should be kept inside of the state, not for a neighbor. This is something Perry and Co. have in mind.

“The legalization of mobile sports betting in Texas would mean implementation of smart and efficient oversight to preserve the integrity of sporting events,” Perry said. “It would also empower Texans to safely participate in mobile sports betting and fight illegal gambling. Given that Texans are already participating in mobile sports betting, legalization would be a home run for everyone involved.”
As you can see from that quote, Perry and the Texas Sports Betting Alliance know that illegal activity continues to be a problem for the state. Millions of dollars continue to be transferred in an illegal fashion, which simply can’t be the case anymore. This money must be moved in a regulated way. Will that happen in 2025? We can only hope, but Perry will be ready to try and help in any way that he can.
Illegal betting will always be a concern in Texas
Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but illegal betting will always be a concern in Texas. Sports fans have become desperate to try and find ways to place wagers and this has been proven already during the Major League Baseball season. The season is still young, but folks continue to check the MLB betting odds for both the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, a pair of AL West powerhouses.
As things stand, these two teams still hold solid World Series betting odds, but people in the state won’t be able to place any legal wagers on them this season. However, with the Astros and Rangers both having plenty of young talent, those odds could keep being strong once the 2025 season gets here too.
People in Texas are optimistic that perhaps legal wagers will be put into place by the time the next campaign gets here, but again, no one knows how things are going to go with the pre-written sports betting bill. If things can get approved, then we have full belief that MLB betting in particular will be tremendous. The same could be said for NFL betting for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. Only time will tell how things go here, but 2025 indeed might be the year when the green light arrives.
