Minnesota’s on a tear
The Twins enter their showdown with the Yankees as the hottest team in baseball. While Minnesota’s 12-game win streak is over, they’ve won 17 of their past 20 games after taking two of three versus the Blue Jays last weekend.
Catcher Ryan Jeffers has been crushing the ball with nine homers and 30 runs batted in this season. Carlos Correa and Max Kepler’s return to the lineup has also helped spur the Twinkies’ offense. And don’t forget the lucky summer sausage. Rocco Baldelli’s club hasn’t lost a series since hitting coach David Popkins initiated the ‘tap the sausage before your at bat’ superstition in late April.

Yankees surging
New York is 12 games above .500 after capturing 10 of its first 13 series to open the season. Aaron Judge has smashed four homers in his last seven contests. He and Anthony Rizzo rank first and second in team OPS. Juan Soto has also been no slouch with a .314 average, nine dingers and 34 RBIs.
Gerrit Cole should also be back from injury soon, although he’s not expected to return for the three-game set in Minnesota.
Twins vs Yankees
New York is -114 on the money line while the Twins are +104 to triumph at home on Wednesday night. With an 11-8 home record, Minnesota is -160 to cover the +1.5 run line at Target Field. The Bronx Bombers are 14-9 away from home this season after taking two of three in Tampa Bay. Aaron Boone’s club is available at +140 if you believe they can cover the +1.5 spread.
The over/under has been set at 8.5 total runs. Both teams rank top ten in runs scored per game with the Twins at 4.88 (6th) and New York at 4.81 (T-8). The Yankees have been better at limiting opponents, allowing 3.52 runs per game (4th) vs. Minnesota’s 4.20 (11th).
You’re probably hearing a lot this week about Statcast’s new bat speed metrics. Here’s what Giancarlo Stanton, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge have to say about it: https://t.co/ROSOp4JedV

Starting Pitching Matchup
Pablo Lopez (4-2) picked up his third-straight victory last Thursday, limiting the Mariners to one run on four hits with a season-high 10 strike outs. The 28-year-old Venezuelan has a 3.89 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 55:8 K:BB in eight starts this season.
Marcus Stroman (2-2) gave up two first-inning home runs in his last start, allowing nine hits in a loss to Houston. Stroman has permitted four runs twice in his past three outings. He has a 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40:22 K:BB through 42 innings in 2024.
Best Bet
How could we possibly wager against a lucky summer sausage? With Pablo Lopez on the mound, we like the Twins (+104) to takedown the Yankees in game 2 of the series on Wednesday night.
