- Scottie Scheffler (+450) is favored to win his first career PGA Championship
- Rory McIlroy (+800) and Brooks Koepka (+1500) are former winners coming off tournament victories
- The PGA Championship tees off from Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, May 16, 2024
Golf’s second major of the season, the 2024 PGA Championship, tees off this Thursday. Scottie Scheffler is the favorite after winning four of his last five tournaments, including his second Masters championship in three years. However, he’ll face stiff competition from Rory McIlroy, who won this event when it was last played at Valhalla in 2014.

Scheffler’s dominating run
Scottie Scheffler (+450) presents quite the pickle for golf bettors. You fade the world No. 1 because his short odds don’t offer a lot of value, and then he just wins the tournament and makes you feel silly. Scheffler has already won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, The Masters and RBC Heritage this year, and just missed out on the Houston Open after missing a short putt that would’ve forced a playoff.
After skipping the Wells Fargo Championship following the birth of his child, Scheffler aims for his fifth victory in the past six events. While the 27-year-old has never won a PGA Championship, he tied for second at last year’s tournament.

Rory’s return to form
Rory McIlroy (+800) won last weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship by five strokes after triumphing at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The Northern Irishman’s most-recent major title also came at Valhalla in 2014 when he captured his second PGA Championship.
Like Scheffler, the 35-year-old’s game is built for this course. If he can strike his balls long and straight off the tee and hit greens at a high rate, the world No. 2 could break his decade-long majors drought.
Koepka heating up
Brooks Koepka (+1500), the reigning event champion, is looking to join Tiger Woods as the only man to claim the Wanamaker Trophy four different times.
The 34-year-old American already successfully defended once in 2019 when he won back-to-back PGA Championships. Coming off a LIV Tour victory in Singapore, Koepka will match Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson if he can pick up his sixth major this Sunday.

Snakebit Schauffele?
Xander Schauffele (+1800) has never won a major, but he’s been consistent in 2024. The 30-year-old lost out to McIlroy on the final day of the Wells Fargo Championship, placing second.
Best Longshot
Ludvig Aberg (+1800) placed second to Scheffler at The Masters and should be fresh after skipping last week’s Well’s Fargo Championship. This is only the 24-year-old Swede’s second major appearance, but he’s got the requisite length and accuracy off the tee to surprise at Valhalla.
