Heading into the British GP, we look at the betting odds, picks, and predictions for who will win the 2024 Moto3 world championship.
With nine races down, it looks as if last year’s third-place finisher, David Alonso is nearly a lock to win the 2024 Moto3 world championship. He has won all but three races this year. However, the race for second place is very competitive, with only a handful of points separating Collin Viejer, Ivan Ortola, and Daniel Holgado.

David Alonso
Last year was David Alonso’s first full year of competition on the Moto3 circuit. The Spanish racer won four events during the 2023 season and racked up 245 points on the year, which put him in third place behind Jaume Masia and Ayumu Sasaki. With both of those riders moving to Moto2 for the 2024 season, the 18-year-old Alonso has been a dominant force in Moto3 in 2024. Alonso has finished all nine of the Moto3 races on the schedule in 2024 and won six of those competitions. He headed into the summer break winning four of five races and placing fifth in the one he didn’t win.
Alonso has 179 points in the Moto3 standings, which puts him 58 points ahead of the second-place rider Ivan Ortola.
Alonso is a member of the CFMoto Aspar Team.
Ivan Ortola
In his third season of Moto3 competition, Ivan Ortola is looking to improve on his sixth-place finish in 2023 when he won two races early in the season and then struggled to place higher than third place in any of the remaining competitions. In the final 16 races of the year, Ortola had one third-place finish and five fourths. This year he won the Dutch TT. He also has one runner-up finish, placing second to Alonso at the Catalan GP. He has placed third three times this year.
The 19-year-old Spanish rider is currently in second place in the Moto3 standings with 121 points following the German GP. Ortola rides for the MT Helmets – MSi team.
Daniel Holgado
Daniel Holgado is in his third full season with Moto3. In 2023, he finished in fifth place at the end of the season. This year, the 19-year-old is currently in third place with 120 points, which puts him a single point behind Ortola. Holgado started the 2024 season in good shape, winning one of the first three races and placing second in the other two. However, the Spanish rider has struggled since then. He’ll need to improve after the summer break if he hopes to hold onto his spot in the standings, but he is likely to improve on his finish from last year.
Holgado is a member of the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 team.
Collin Veijer
Currently sitting in fourth place in the Moto3 standings, Collin Veijer has 115 points on the 2024 Moto3 season. The 19-year-old Dutch rider performed well in Moto3 in 2023, finishing his first year on the circuit in seventh place in the standings. Veijer had one victory last year.
Veijer has raced well this year, winning once and placing inside the top six in six other races. He did not finish one race, and he’s coming off a disappointing 18th-place finish in Germany after starting on the pole. With a lot of time off before the next Moto3 race, look for Veijer and his team at Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP to put that race behind them.
Veijer had a good second half of the season in 2023, so don’t count him out as a rider who can make some noise for the rest of the 2024 MotoGP season.
Best betting picks for the 2024 Moto3 World Championship
With how he is riding, the only things that will keep the current betting favorite, David Alonso from winning the 2024 Moto3 world championship are a complete collapse or an injury that prevents him from finishing the season. David Alonso is the betting pick to win the 2024 Moto3 world championship.
The question facing the rest of the pack, is who will place second? The betting pick is Collin Veijer to bounce back from his poor finish in Germany and finish right behind Alonso in the standings.
