Defending MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia went into the break with a win at the German Grand Prix. With the victory, Bagnaia tied his personal best of four straight MotoGP victories, something he achieved late in the 2022 MotoGP season. With the win in Germany, Bagnaia overtook Jorge Martin for the points lead for the 2024 MotoGP season. Martin did not finish in Germany, leaving the race on the 28th of 30 laps after a crash. Marc Marquez, who is third in the standings, finished in the runner-up spot in Germany.

The Silverstone Circuit is 5.97km long with 10 right corners and eight left corners. The longest straight on the course is 770 meters. Johann Zarco has the all-time lap record on the circuit at 1:57.767 in 2022. The best race lap record is held by Alex Rins at 1:59.346, also in 2022. The top speed at Silverstone was set in 2022 as well when Enea Bastianini hit 340.6 km/hr.

Aleix Espargaro won this race in 2023, with Bagnaia finishing second and Brad Binder in third. Bagnaia won the British GP in 2022.

Francesco Bagnaia

After a somewhat slow start in the early weeks of the 2024 MotoGP season, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP world champion, is dominating and looks like he could be on his way to a third straight MotoGP world championship. The 27-year-old opened the year with a win in Qatar, but then did not finish in Portugal. He then placed fifth in America. Since then, Bagnaia has been on a roll, winning the past four MotoGP races.

Bagnaia has performed well at the British GP. In his first start as a MotoGP rider in 2019, he finished 11th, and then he placed 14th in 2021. He won in 2022 and finished second to Aleix Espargaro last year.

Bagnaia is in first place in the MotoGP points race heading into this week with 222 points.

Jorge Martin

Jorge Martin was leading the German GP when he crashed near the end of the race. Despite the crash, Martin, who has sometimes been criticized for his aggression, doesn’t plan on reigning things in. “When you have a crash I try to analyze to understand why it happened and improve for next time,” Martin said after the finish that dropped him to second place in the standings. “But I think that until that moment I was the strongest in Germany so I have to keep the same mentality and try to keep the same type of riding and try to be aggressive and be fastest.”

The 26-year-old, who is 10 points behind Bagnaia, has started the British GP three times and finished twice. He placed fifth in 2022 and sixth last year.

Martin has two wins in 2024, two runner-up finishes, and two third-place finishes. He has not finished two races this season.

Marc Marquez

Heading into the 2024 MotoGP season, the biggest concerns for the legendary Marc Marquez were his health and how he would perform with his new team. After 11 years with Honda, the 30-year-old is now on a Ducati for Gresini Racing. As for his health, Marquez has started all nine MotoGP races in 2024, and outside of not finishing in America, placing 16th in Portugal, and finishing in 10th in the Netherlands, Marquez has been among the top four finishers in his other five starts during the 2024 MotoGP season. However, Marquez is still looking for his first win of 2024. The last time Marquez won a MotoGP race was in 2021, when he placed first three times before finishing the year in the No. 7 spot in the standings. He has finished as the runner-up three times this year, including in Germany.

Marquez had one win in the British GP, which came in 2014. He did not finish the race in his past two starts, 2021 and 2023.

Marquez is in third place in the 2024 points race with 166.
