Vikings to defeat Colts in a cakewalk on Sunday Night Football

  • Minnesota (5-2) is a 5.5-point home favorite over the Colts (4-4) in Week 9
  • The Vikings lost left tackle Christian Darrisaw for the season in last Thursday’s loss to the Rams
  • Sunday Night Football kicks off from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN at 8:20 pm ET

After opening the season with a 5-0 record, Minnesota dropped two games in the span of five days to fall to third place in the NFC North. Sam Darnold and the Vikings will look to get back on track against an Indianapolis team coming off a hard-fought loss to the division-rival Texans.

Richardson struggles

Anthony Richardson’s accuracy is a problem to say the least. Indianapolis’ No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft finished 10-of-32 passing for 175 yards with a touchdown and an ugly interception in Sunday’s 23-20 loss to Houston. If his 31.3 completion percentage (the second-lowest by any player in a single game in 10 seasons wasn’t enough), Richardson also took himself out of the game in third quarter because he was “tired”.

With veteran Joe Flacco ready to step in and produce at a moment’s notice, the Colts could consider making a change down the stretch.

Vikings drop 2 in a row

After scoring two TDs on their first two drives, the Vikings’ offense went ice cold in Thursday night’s 30-20 loss to the Rams. Minnesota also lost standout left tackle Christian Darrisaw to a season-ending knee injury.

The loss could prove devastating to Sam Darnold and the Vikings’ passing game. However, in some positive news, tight end T.J. Hockenson is expected to make his season debut on Sunday Night Football.

Minnesota vs Indianapolis

Minnesota is a 5.5-point home favorite in Week 9 with the over/under set at 45 points. The Vikings’ No. 7 ranked scoring offense is averaging 26.9 points per game and the Colts have a bottom-ten defense against the pass, allowing 227.8 yards per contest. It’s a good spot for Justin Jefferson, who is No. 2 in the NFL with 646 receiving yards this season.

The Vikings have the third-worst defense against the pass, allowing opponents to rack up 263 yards per week. However, Brian Flores’ unit is top four against the run, permitting just 83.9 yards per game. Jonathan Taylor looked good in his return last week, rushing for 105 yards and a TD on 20 carries.

Best Bet

While the loss of Christian Darrisaw is massive, the Vikings will have had a full 10 days rest by Sunday night. Richardson also doesn’t look capable of capitalizing on Minnesota’s defensive liabilities in the passing game.

We’ll take the Vikings to cover (-5.5) at home with the OVER 45 points.
