Bengals buried in the standings
With Joe Burrow finally healthy, the Bengals were supposed to compete for the Super Bowl this season. But the team’s grand ambitions have been snuffed out by one of the NFL’s worst defenses. Cincinnati’s secondary was picked apart for 348 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday’s 41-38 overtime loss to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
Zac Taylor’s squad has now lost five straight one-score games dating to last season. Set up on Baltimore’s 38-yard line in overtime following a turnover, Taylor chose to run on three-straight plays rather than putting the ball in Burrow’s hands. The 53-yard FG attempt was subsequently missed, putting Cincinnati in an almost inescapable 1-4 hole.

Danny Dimes’ redemption
Seemingly entering the 2024 season as a dead man walking, Daniel Jones has improved every week. On Sunday, “Dimes” completed 23 of 34 passes for 257 yards and two TDs while adding 38 yards on the ground.
While the Giants were missing star receiver Malik Nabers, fellow rookie Tyrone Tracy finished with an impressive 129 rushing yards. With Nabers and veteran RB Devin Singletary due back soon, Big Blue’s offense suddenly doesn’t look so bad.
New York vs Cincinnati
New York is a +3.5-point home underdog in Week 6 and the over/under is set at a sky-high 49.5-points. Cincinnati’s defense is allowing the second-most points per game (29.0) in the NFL, only ahead of Carolina (33.0). They’re also permitting the third-most rushing yards per game (151.4).
The Giants’ defense has been surprisingly solid thanks to Dexter Lawrence, who is tied for second in the league with six sacks. “Sexy Dexy” will need to generate pressure against Burrow, who leads the NFL with 12 TD passes versus just two interceptions. Ja’Marr Chase has been the primary beneficiary of Joe Cool’s resurgence with 493 receiving yards (2nd) and five receiving TDs (T-1st) this season.

Best Bet
This is a “do or die” game for Cincinnati, but New York can’t exactly relax either. At 2-3, Brian Daboll’s club sits in last place in the NFC East heading into Week 6. While the Bengals should win this one, their defense is impossible to trust. Sunday Night Football is so exciting!
We’ll take the G-Men and the points (+3.5) paired with the OVER 49.5.
