UFC 310: Shavkat Rakhmonov betting breakdown
Shavkat Rakhmonov looks the part of an exceptional talent. The 30-year-old has done everything right during his four-year stint with the UFC. Rakhmonov was initially booked to compete in the main event of UFC 310 against welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, but a bone infection knocked the champ from the card. Rakhmonov had hoped for an interim title fight, but that didn’t come to fruition as Muhammad will not be out of action for a long time. Instead, Rakhmonov risks losing his shot at UFC gold against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 310.
Rakhmonov is an aggressive fighter. He has a great deal of power and does an excellent job of mixing up his targets and techniques to keep his opponent guessing what’s coming and where it is coming from. Rakhmonov is good everywhere, but he is especially effective in close and in the clinch. As good as he is offensively, Rakhmonov is also sound on defense, being hard to hit and takedown.
Rakhmonov lands 4.12 significant strikes per minute with a 61 percent striking accuracy. He absorbs 2.41 significant strikes per minute with a 51 percent defense. He lands 1.49 takedowns per minute with an accuracy of 29 percent. His takedown defense is 100 percent.
UFC 310: Ian Machado Garry betting breakdown
Ian Machado Garry is a fighter the UFC hopes will be their next big Irish star. The young and confident fighter has looked better in each of his UFC outings, but questions remain on just how high his upside is in the UFC’s 170-pound division. His past two fights answered some of those questions but also left others unanswered. This bout will tell us where the 27-year-old stands in the division.
This is a risky fight for Garry. He was booked to face Joaquin Buckley on December 14, but agreed to step in to fight the more dangerous Rakhmonov in the hope that a win will put him in a UFC welterweight title fight.
Garry is a good striker. He usually has a very high output and decent accuracy, but he struggled on the feet against Michael Page and had to resort to takedowns and ground control to win that fight. Garry will not be better than Rakhmonov on the ground, so he will need to defeat him on the feet. The one thing that stands out about Garry is that he carries his chin very high, which makes him hittable. That’s a dangerous style to employ against a powerful and accurate striker like Rakhmonov.
Garry lands 5.50 significant strikes per minute. His striking percentage is 55 percent. As for defense, Garry gets hit an average of 3.17 times per minute and defends 52 percent of his opponent’s attempted strikes. He averages 0.77 takedowns per minute with a 55 percent takedown accuracy. His takedown defense is 69 percent.
Best Bets: UFC 310 main event: Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry
This is a fantastic co-main event for UFC 310. While there are worries about Garry’s style, there are also concerns about Rakhmonov’s cardio since he has never gone the three-round distance, let alone five rounds. However, Rakhmonov has looked like the more talented and dangerous fighter while facing better competition than Garry.
The betting pick is Shavkat Rakhmonov to beat Ian Machado Garry via knockout.
