The big picture
Max Verstappen finished fifth in Las Vegas, one place ahead of Lando Norris, and that was enough for the Dutchman to secure his fourth successive world championship.

George Russell was the winning driver in Las Vegas last weekend. Starting from the pole position in his Mercedes, Russell dominated the race for his second win of the season.
Russell won by over seven seconds from teammate Lewis Hamilton, although he did have to hold off a late charge from the seven-time world champ who started 10th on the grid.
Elsewhere, the Constructors’ Championship is still alive. And after a 3-4 finish from Ferrari, the Prancing Horse team has now cut McLaren’s lead at the top of the championship to just 24 points.
McLaren who sit on 608 points are -450 to win the championship. Ferrari are on 584 points. The bookmakers are pricing them up at +333. Red Bull have a 53-point gap to make up on McLaren in two races. It’s obviously not happening, which is why they are +10000.
The sixth and final Sprint race of the season takes place in Qatar on Saturday, meaning even more points will be up for grabs.
But, after the Qatar Grand Prix, only one more race remains this season, meaning Ferrari will run out of races in their attempts to catch McLaren.
Betting to win the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix
The best Formula 1 betting sites have Lando Norris as the +200 favorite to win the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. Newly crowned world champion, Max Verstappen, is second at +400.
In the lead-up to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris and Verstappen were +225 joint favorites to win the race.
Part of the reason for the shift in the betting is the makeup of the circuit. Vegas is one of the fastest circuits on the roster. It is also a street circuit.
In contrast, the Lusail International Circuit is a new race track. It was also built to accommodate MotoGP, meaning it’s more geared towards bikes than cars.
There are plenty of medium-to-high-speed turns on the Lusail circuit, which usually suits the McLarens. This is why Norris is the favorite and Oscar Piastri is third in the betting at +500.
After last weekend’s much-improved performance in Vegas, the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are next, both at +600. Charles Leclerc is +900 and his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz is +1000.
It will come as no surprise to see that McLaren is the favorite in the winning car betting. The leaders of the Constructors’ Championship are +100.
Mercedes are second at +225, Red Bull is +375, and Ferrari is +475.

Our 2024 Qatar Grand Prix betting picks and predictions
With the Drivers’ Championship now settled, attention falls to the Constructors’ Championship and the battle between McLaren and Ferrari.
The two teams can make their strategy calls this weekend on what is best for the team, as opposed to the individual drivers.
Red Bull and Mercedes, on the other hand, won’t have that problem. They can focus on trying to gain the race win for whichever driver is best placed.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has already stated that he doesn’t think the Lusail circuit will suit his car. The outgoing Spaniard said it is set to be a “very challenging weekend for us” in Qatar.
The view of Sainz is reflected in the betting odds.
McLaren looks likely to get the better of Ferrari this weekend. But that doesn’t mean they win the race. After all, Mercedes had a storming weekend in Vegas, and Max Verstappen can never be written off.
The big question is whether Mercedes can perform as well again this weekend. Has the team finally turned the corner, or is it yet another false dawn?
The obvious bet would appear to be on a win for any McLaren (+100). But with Oscar Piastri not managing a top-5 finish in his last three races, it would probably make more sense to just back Norris to win at the better odds (+200).
There is that lingering doubt about Mercedes. The team did win back-to-back in Austria and Britain. But on the flip side, it is the only time they have won successive races all season.
The bottom line is that McLaren has been more consistent than the Silver Arrows have this season. So our pick is for Lando Norris to win the race. If you prefer the security of having two chances, go for any McLaren to win.
