Clemson Tigers
The Tigers made it to the Elite Eight in the 2024 postseason, losing 89-82 to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Coach Brad Brownell has been in charge of the Tigers since 2010. Last season’s run to the last eight of the NCAA Tournament was his best in charge of the Tigers yet.
Despite losing a lot of players in the off-season, Brownell will believe he can go a long way with this group, so the match against the Wildcats will be a good test for his young stars.
The Tigers started the season with successive wins over Charleston (91-64), St Francis (88-62), and Eastern Kentucky (75-62). Then came the one defeat to Boise State (84-71).
Coach Brownell’s team recovered from the setback well, defeating the Radford Highlanders (79-51), the San Francisco Dons (70-55), Penn State (75-67), and most recently, Florida A&M (86-58).
In the win over Florida, Chase Hunter scored 16 points in his 32 minutes of playing time. Chauncey Wiggins also played his role, the forward contributed 15 points, two rebounds, and one assist in his 23 minutes.
In the betting to win the AAC regular season, the Tigers are the third favorite at +1400. Duke is the favorite at -125, with North Carolina the second favorite at +325.
In the betting to win the 2025 National Championship, Clemson is +15000. To go one further than last season and reach the Final Four, you can get +3500.
Kentucky Wildcats
In the 2024 Tournament, the Kentucky Wildcats went out in the 1st Round. Seeded No.3, Kentucky lost 80-76 to Oakland in disappointing fashion.
The match also signaled the end of an era at the Rupp Arena, as veteran head coach John Calipari announced his departure soon after.
Mark Pope took over from Calipari, and so far things have gone extremely well for the former Utah Valley and BYU Cougars head coach, with seven wins from seven.
Pope started with a 103-62 win over Wright State. That victory was followed by wins over Bucknell (100-72), Duke (77-72), Lipscomb (97-68), Jackson State (108-59), Western Kentucky (87-68), and Georgia State (105-76).
Jaxson Robinson was in good form for the Wildcats in the win over the Georgia State Panthers. Robinson scored 19 points, with three rebounds and two assists, playing an instrumental role in his 27 minutes on the court.
The Wildcats are fourth favorites to win the SEC at +1100. In a very tough conference, Kentucky sits behind the favorites Auburn (+200), Alabama (+240), and Tennessee (+350) in the latest regular-season betting.
To win the National Championship match, the Wildcats are +2000, the tenth favorite in the betting. To reach the Final Four, Kentucky is +500.
Clemson Tigers vs. Kentucky Wildcats Betting Picks
This will be a serious test for the Wildcats. They are one of the favorites to go a long way in the tournament, so a matchup against the Tigers will give us a great insight into how much of a threat they currently offer to the likes of UConn.
If the match were in Kentucky, they would be much clearer favorites. So a 2.5-point start on the handicap, shows the bookmakers are far from certain the Wildcats can get the job done on the road.
We are going to put our faith in the Wildcats, though. They came through a tough match against Duke, winning it by five points. They have already proved they are capable this season. The Wildcats had to fight back from a nine-point halftime deficit to win that match.
As for Clemson, they came unstuck against Boise State when they were put under the pump.
A win for the Wildcats on the money line is our betting pick.
