MI State

You have to go back to late November to find the last time the Spartans tasted defeat.

Memphis were the team that dished out the loss to the Spartans (71-63) in a match that saw the Tigers qualify for the Maui Invitational title game in Hawaii.

Since that setback, Tom Izzo’s Spartans have won seven in a row. Included in that run of victories are three conference wins over Minnesota (90-72), Nebraska (89-52), and most recently, Ohio State (69-62).

But despite their 3-0 start in conference play, the Spartans aren’t the favorite to win the regular-season Big Ten Conference – their cross-city rivals are.

The Michigan Wolverines are the betting favorites at +260. Illinois is second at +260. Only then do we get to MI State, who are the +350 third-betting favorites.

In the betting to win the 2025 NCAA Championship match, the Spartans are large outsiders at +6600. They are also +1400 to reach the Final Four.

The Spartans last played on Friday. The match saw them register a seven-point win over Ohio State at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.

The road trip win wasn’t without incident. The Spartans were cruising with a 14-point lead late in the second period. But despite a spirited comeback from the Buckeyes, the Spartans managed to see the game out for a 69-62 win.

After Thursday’s match against the Huskies, the Spartans will continue their conference play with a road-trip to face Northwestern on Sunday.

Washington

The bookmakers are giving Washington no chance of winning the Big Ten. The Huskies are +25000 to win the regular-season. Only Minnesota (+50000) have longer odds.

The main reason for these long odds is the Huskies are already struggling in a very competitive Big Ten Conference – they are 1-3 in conference play.

Such a record is making life difficult for new head coach Danny Sprinkle, who is in his first season in charge at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

Overall, things weren’t going bad. The Huskies are 10-5, not the worst record in college basketball. But in conference play, things have gone badly wrong.

Washington lost their opening Big Ten match 69-58 away at UCLA. That disappointment was quickly followed by another conference loss, this time at home, with the Huskies going down by a 24-point margin to USC (85-61).

The new year got off to a good start with a 75-69 home-win over Maryland. But success was short lived as the Huskies followed that up with an 81-77 home defeat to No.13 Illinois.

Things won’t be getting any easier for Danny Sprinkle and his team anytime soon. Following on from their showdown with the Spartans on Thursday is another tough assignment in Indiana, this time away to the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday.

Michigan State Spartans vs. Washington Huskies Betting Picks

With the home-court advantage, there is no real debate about who will win this match. But at -1000 on the money line, a bet on MI State is clearly out of the question.

So, will the Spartans cover the spread? That is the question.

Some of the key statistics tell us that MI State has covered nine times out of 14 this season. While Washington has covered eight times out of 13 against the spread.

These stats point towards a bet on the Huskies to win against the spread.
