Like they did the previous weekend against Ole Miss, the Bulldogs remained calm and got the job done in overtime. But this match was against a team with a 0-6 record in conference play (now 0-7), and the Bulldogs should be doing better than this.
Between the wins against Ole Miss and South Carolina, the Bulldogs suffered a midweek 68-56 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at the Thompson-Boling Arena.

In the latest betting, Nate Oats’ team is the +475 second favorite to win the SEC regular-season. That leaves the Crimson Tide second behind Auburn at -370 and ahead of the third-placed Florida Gators at +1600.
The Crimson Tide are also +270 to reach the Final Four and +1400 to win the 2025 NCAA Championship.
Following their visit to Mississippi, the Crimson Tide will host Georgia at the Coleman Coliseum on Saturday.
MS State vs. Alabama Betting Picks
MS State is 0-3 against top-10 opponents this season. Defeats have come against Auburn, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The bottom line seems to be that when the Bulldogs step up in class, they come undone.
Furthermore, in recent weeks, MS State has made real hard work of wins over Ole Miss at home and South Carolina away.
Throwing away that lead against the South Carolina Gamecocks was an eye-opener. It could serve as a much-needed kick in the backside for MS State. But it could be more symptomatic of just where the Bulldogs are.
A home record of 8-1 is okay. But an overall record of 16-4 is less so.
If Alabama is serious about going all the way this season, they need to win awkward away matches like this. It doesn’t matter how. And it doesn’t have to be pretty. Alabama just has to win. Period.
All the form points to a close game, but there is little evidence to justify siding with the home team after their performances against the Gamecocks.
