Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith is a well-rounded fighter who excels on the mat. However, he has struggled as of late with leg kicks, something he addressed after a 2023 loss to Johnny Walker, “There is a glaring hole in my game, and it’s no longer a hole. It’s the leg kicks become a liability at this point. It’s not even a hole in my game anymore, it’s a liability.” In his most recent bout, Smith absorbed 27 leg kicks from Roman Dolidze, who outstruck Smith 100 to 51 in overall significant strikes in their three-round battle.
Smith is tough and resilient. He has good technical skills, and can mix up his techniques as needed. Smith is also a good game planner, which could make an enormous difference in this fight. Reyes’ three knockout losses showed that he has weaknesses that can be exploited, and one of those is his chin. Look for Smith to pursue a knockout in this matchup.

Dominick Reyes is a good striker. He has power in his strikes, and his technique is above average. The former title challenger also does well in timing his opponents. Before one gets too down on Reyes and his four losses, it’s important to consider the men he has lost to during that run. Jon Jones, Jan Blachowicz, and Jiri Prochazka all held the UFC light heavyweight title. However, the Spann loss does not look great for Reyes as Spann went 0-3 after he knocked out Reyes in the first round of their 2022 contest.
What is worrisome about Reyes is that his three setbacks since a close decision loss to Jon Jones have all been via knockout. Reyes bounced back from those losses with a KO win over Dustin Jacoby, who is a good striker. That win should be a huge boost to Reyes’ confidence, and sometimes removing doubt is all a fighter needs to get back on track. This booking seems like it was made for the UFC to decide if Reyes’ win over Jacoby got him back on course or if it was a fluke.
