The final UFC pay-per-view card of 2024 takes place on Saturday, December 7, from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event of that card, UFC 310, UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja faces former Rizin bantamweight titleholder Kai Asakura, who makes his UFC debut on the ESPN+ streaming pay-per-view event. Before that bout, two former UFC light heavyweight title challengers, Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes, meet on the prelim card. Here is some background on the fighters before we look at the betting odds, picks, and predictions for UFC 310.

Anthony Smith (38-20) is the No. 13 fighter in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings. Smith is 2-4 in his past six fights. He has alternated wins and losses in his past four outings, and is coming off a June 2024 decision setback to Roman Dolidze.

Dominick Reyes (13-4) is ranked at No. 12 in the UFC’s 205-pound division. Reyes ended a four-fight losing skid in June when he scored a knockout victory over Dustin Jacoby.

UFC 310: Anthony Smith betting breakdown

Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith is a well-rounded fighter who excels on the mat. However, he has struggled as of late with leg kicks, something he addressed after a 2023 loss to Johnny Walker, “There is a glaring hole in my game, and it’s no longer a hole. It’s the leg kicks become a liability at this point. It’s not even a hole in my game anymore, it’s a liability.” In his most recent bout, Smith absorbed 27 leg kicks from Roman Dolidze, who outstruck Smith 100 to 51 in overall significant strikes in their three-round battle.

Smith is tough and resilient. He has good technical skills, and can mix up his techniques as needed. Smith is also a good game planner, which could make an enormous difference in this fight. Reyes’ three knockout losses showed that he has weaknesses that can be exploited, and one of those is his chin. Look for Smith to pursue a knockout in this matchup.

Smith lands 3.24 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 49 percent. He gets hit 4.60 times per minute with a defensive striking rate of 46 percent. Considering the background of these two combatants, the expectation is the fight will remain standing for as long as it lasts.

UFC 310: Dominick Reyes betting breakdown

Dominick Reyes is a good striker. He has power in his strikes, and his technique is above average. The former title challenger also does well in timing his opponents. Before one gets too down on Reyes and his four losses, it’s important to consider the men he has lost to during that run. Jon Jones, Jan Blachowicz, and Jiri Prochazka all held the UFC light heavyweight title. However, the Spann loss does not look great for Reyes as Spann went 0-3 after he knocked out Reyes in the first round of their 2022 contest.

What is worrisome about Reyes is that his three setbacks since a close decision loss to Jon Jones have all been via knockout. Reyes bounced back from those losses with a KO win over Dustin Jacoby, who is a good striker. That win should be a huge boost to Reyes’ confidence, and sometimes removing doubt is all a fighter needs to get back on track. This booking seems like it was made for the UFC to decide if Reyes’ win over Jacoby got him back on course or if it was a fluke.

Reyes lands 4.87 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 50 percent. His defensive striking rate is 48 percent, and he absorbs 3.75 significant strikes per minute.

Best Bets: UFC 310: Anthony Smith vs. Dominick Reyes

The betting odds are lopsided in this fight, and that’s a bit odd considering that Reyes had lost four straight fights before his most recent win. It feels as if bettors are putting a lot of stock in Reyes’ knockout of Jacoby, and I don’t know if that performance is enough to declare that Reyes is back as an elite light heavyweight. With that in mind, the best bet is to go with the betting value in this contest.

The betting pick is for Anthony Smith to beat Dominick Reyes at UFC 310.
