The Finns had a night to forget at the Bell Centre in their opening match against the USA.
Already starting as underdogs, Antti Pennanen’s team was beaten 6-1 by a rampant United States team.

Things got off to a good start for the Finns. Henri Jokiharju gave them the lead after 07:31 of the first period. But all the Sabres’ defenceman achieved was giving Team USA an early wake-up call.
From then on in, Mike Sullivan’s team was ruthless. Led by the Tkachuk brothers, the US put six unanswered goals past Juuse Saros. The Americans dominated the match, with 32 shots to the Finn’s 21.
Antti Pennanen will have a job picking up his players for the match against Sweden. His team’s odds have already drifted from +145 to +160, as a result of the USA match.
Finland is also now out to +2500 in the betting to win the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Following their match with the Swedes, Finland will face Canada in Boston on Monday.

Sam Hallam’s Sweden team proved to everyone watching that they aren’t just at this event to make up the numbers.
It’s fair to say that they never really looked like beating Canada, but they did give the tournament favorites a huge scare when third-period goals from Adrian Kempe and Joel Eriksson tied the game at 3-3 and sent it into overtime.
Ultimately, Sweden fell short. A fairytale night for Sidney Crosby culminated with the 37-year-old providing the assist (his third of the night) for Mitch Marner to win the game with a 6:06 overtime goal.
The Swedes have laid down a marker. If they can defeat Finland, then they will have something to play for when they take on the USA in their final group game on Monday.

How do the Finns recover from the mauling they have just received from Team USA?
That said, the Finns still have European bragging rights to play for, and although a long shot, they aren’t yet out of the competition.
