Gervonta “Tank” Davis
Gervonta “Tank” Davis has a fight record of 30-0. The 30-year-old American has won 28 of his contests by KO, with only two going the distance. Davis vs Roach bets get enamored with the Tank even if he is more introspective lately. After all, he was on a 14-month layoff then proceeded to knock out Frank Martin in round number 8 last June.
Davis fights out of the southpaw stance. He has reigned over the division, in theory, for a few years now. The highly-rated WBA lightweight champion wants to unify the division before he retires. That has not been a secret. However, if not for his legal issues, maybe that would have been done already?
Previously Davis has been a regular lightweight champion and before that was a super featherweight and super lightweight title holder. The 135-pound boxer understands that Lamont Roach Jr. will be no pushover. Roach Jr. has the ability to knock even a fighter like Davis out.
The fight was supposed to take place in December of 2024 but was postponed. Now, Davis is prepared to take out Roach Jr. on Saturday night.
Lamont Roach Jr.
Lamont Roach Jr. has a professional fight record of 25-1-1 with 10 wins coming by KO. Roach is 29 years old and is from Washington, DC, and fights for Golden Boy Promotions. Don’t be fooled by the lack of knockouts from the fighter. Roach Jr. has some solid power with that right hand. He showed it in amateurs even against Gervonta Davis.
Fighting out of the orthodox stance, Roach Jr. won the WBA Super Featherweight title in 2023 via a split decision against Hector Luis Garcia. After a defense of his title, many wondered what was next. The answer is the biggest test of his professional boxing career.
Roach Jr. last fought in the States in June of 2042. He successfully defended his WBA belt with an eighth round knockout of Feargal McCrory. His ability to avoid punishment is well documented but again he hides his power shots pretty well. Defense has always been a calling card for Roach Jr. as he likes to transition from defense to offense quickly.
Pundits talk about the postponement but none of that matters now. Does Roach Jr. really know a secret or three about Davis? That is what everyone will find out on Saturday. If he does, the feeling is that Roach will spark the upset via a knockout. With the decision for Roach Jr. and draw being the same around +2500, going for the knockout stunner is actually a safer pick.
