Guang Zu Lu | +125 | -180 | Anthony Ginting |
Kenta Nishimoto | -180 | +125 | Christo Popov |
Kean Yew Loh | -290 | +195 | Cheuk Yiu Lee |
Priyanshu Rajawat | -255 | +175 | Takuma Obayashi |
Guang Zu Lu vs. Anthony Ginting
This is one of the matches of the round as 13th ranked Lu takes on world number 10 Anthony Ginting. Despite Ginting being the betting favorite and generally considered a better player, the form of the two men is contrasting. Lu has just won the Korea Open in scintillating fashion, beating some top players along the way. Ginting retired injured in his last match at the Japan Open and has was disappointing at the Olympic Games where he was knocked out in the second round.
Lu won the last time these two faced each other, at January’s Malaysia Open. I back him to win again in this match at odds of +125 with Bovada.

Kenta Nishimoto vs. Christo Popov
This is another interesting matchup. Christo Popov is one of the few Europeans competing at the event. The 22 year old Frenchman is an up and coming star of Badminton. Nishimoto is an experienced pro and has consistently been around the top 10 in the world throughout his career. He is currently ranked 12th.
Kenta Nishimoto should have too much for Popov on this occasion. He is priced at -180 with Bovada.
Kean Yew Loh vs. Cheuk Yiu Lee
I have picked this match out as a potential upset. The underdog Lee is playing in his home tournament which should give him extra impetus. The two players are close in rank, Loh is 11 and Lee is ranked 15. However, the odds of -290 suggest Loh is heavily favored. I see this as a closer call so I am happy to back Lee at odds of +195.
Priyanshu Rajawat vs. Takuma Obayashi
This is another match where there might be some betting value. These two are at similar ranks and in similar form but Obayashi has much more enticing odds. I don’t think there is much to pick between the two so to see Obasyashi’s odds at +175 is slightly surprising and a bet I’m willing to take.
