heavyweight boxing contest between former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and ex-WBA heavyweight champion and current IBF champ Daniel Dubois takes place on Saturday, September 21, at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Dubois held the interim IBF title but was elevated to full titleholder in June when Oleksandr Usyk vacated that belt.

Anthony Joshua (28-3) is 4-1 with three knockout wins since he lost his titles to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021. Joshua’s other setback during that time was a split-decision defeat to Usyk in their rematch in August 2022. The 34-year-old Joshua has 25 wins by knockout, one knockout loss, and two decision defeats. Joshua is rated as the No. 2 heavyweight by The Ring.

Daniel Dubois (21-2) is 6-1 in his past seven fights. His loss during that stretch came in August 2023 when Usyk knocked him out in the ninth round. He won the interim IBF title in June with an eighth-round TKO of Filip Hrgovic. Dubois has 20 career KO wins. Dubois is rated No. 6, according to The Ring.

Anthony Joshua betting breakdown

According to The RingAnthony Joshua enters his matchup against Daniel Dubois as the No. 2 rated heavyweight. He trails Usyk and Tyson Fury in those ratings. A win over Dubois won’t move him up those ratings, but a loss will drop him. Joshua is coming off a big knockout win over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March.

Joshua is serious about his boxing career. Yes, he has power and size, but he also has speed. He has also shown in recent fights the ability to move and counter well, while delivering potent combinations when the opportunity is there. What stands out about Joshua is that he is always looking to make slight changes and improvements to his game plan. He is not a fighter who rests on his past accomplishments.

If Joshua fights Dubois like he did against Otto Wallin in December 2023, he should have a good fight in Riyadh. Joshua looked sharp in that fight. He was aggressive but not sloppy, choosing his shots and placing those punches well. Most of all, Joshua was confident in that scrap. That confidence did not drop against Ngannou. Where Fury might have overlooked Ngannou, Joshua did not, he overwhelmed the MMA fighter-turned-boxer and knocked him out in the second round.

A win here keeps Joshua in the mix to face Usyk or Fury for all the heavyweight titles.

Daniel Dubois betting breakdown

The 27-year-old Daniel Dubois has a huge opportunity in front of him on September 21. If he can get by Joshua, he will put his name in the mix to fight one of the biggest names in boxing in Fury or Usyk. However, Dubois has stumbled when he was in this position in the past. Joe Joyce defeated him in 2020 and then Usyk knocked him out in 2023.

Dubois does not have the one-punch stopping power of his opponent. He needs to use his movement and speed to set a fast pace against Joshua and he must keep that pace throughout the fight. If Dubois doesn’t give Joshua a target to hit with a power punch, Dubois’ chances of winning increase. However, the moment he stands still and allows Joshua to plant his feet and throw with power is when the the fight could completely turn in Joshua’s favor.

Dubois has all the tools to give Joshua a tough fight. He has good technical skills and size. His hand speed is better than average, and he can be effective in his combinations. However, there are questions about Dubois’ mentality since he lost to Usyk via a jab. If Joshua can put doubt in Dubois’ head, Dubois will be in trouble on September 21.

Best bets for Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois

Joshua has answered any questions about his mentality since his losses to Usyk. The same cannot be said of Dubois, who hasn’t been tested since his loss to Usyk. The odds make Dubois a decent value bet, so don’t be afraid to sprinkle a little on him to get the win by knockout.

However, the betting pick is for Anthony Joshua to score a knockout over Daniel Dubois in the second half of this fight to become the IBF heavyweight champion.
