Artur Beterbiev
Artur Beterbiev has a fight record of 21-0. The 40-year-old American has won 20 of his contests by KO, with only one going the distance (the first Bivol fight).
Beterbiev fights out of the orthodox stance. He has reigned over the division for more than seven years now. The highly-rated Russian-Canadiann is the undisputed Light Heavyweight champion. The No. 4 pound-for-pound ranked fighter defeat Bivol by majority decision last October. It was one of the most entertaining fights of 2024 and begged for a rematch.
Previously Beterbiev has been a Light Heavyweight champion since 2017 when he first won the IBF Light Heavyweight title. All the fighter has done is defend his title(s) by knocking opponents out. Even now at 40 years young, Beterbiev remains primed to defend his belt with another mega fight.
The decision to keep on fighting at 175 pounds has proven to be quite profitable for Beterbiev. Could this fight go the distance again? Do not be surprised if it does.
Dmitry Bivol
Dmitry Bivol has a professional fight record of 23-1 with 12 wins coming by KO. Bivol is 34 years old and is from Saint Petersburg, Russia but trains in Southern California. Don’t be fooled by the lack of professional fights from either fighter. This is not like old times. Now, his amateur record was impressive. Bivol amassed a 268-15 record.
Fighting out of the orthodox stance like Beterbiev, Bivol won the vacant WBA lightweight title in 2017. He had held a form of the WBA title for almost seven years before losing that and the IBO belt to Beterbiev. The rematch is again for the undisputed championship. By the way, this is the fourth fight in a row at Kingdom Arena for Bivol.
Bivol last fought in the States in May of 2022. He successfully defended his WBA belt with a stirring decision winning over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. It was a clinic that drew much notice for the fighter. It is hard to make Canelo look bad but Bivol did just that. He held Alvarez to a 17% connect rate (84 punches landed). Bivol landed more punches (152 in all) and shockingly, more power shots.
Bivol was originally supposed to fight Beterbiev early in 2023. Ongoing Russian sanctions then a Beterbiev meniscus issue delayed the fight to October of 2024. Give the younger Bivol credit as he kept racking up the wins. The first fight against Beterbiev showed Bivol in a good light. Bivol landed a few more shots and had a solid percentage at 34%. If Bivol uses body shots better to go with that jab, he could win this rematch.
Beterbiev vs Bivol Best Bets Take Some Shots
Neither fighter has a lot to lose from this fight. Assuming a third fight does not happen, the winner likes takes on David Benavídez maybe in the Summer.
No one should be surprised that many expect this fight to go the distance again. Considering both fighters are so sound and love outworking their opponents, it’s surprising to see odds of +160 available for the fight to end in fewer than 36 minutes.
The contest could go kind of like the first Beterbiev vs. Bivol fight. If there is a knockout, this would come in the later rounds. That is why the Rounds 10-12 prop has shortened to +550. Even Rounds 7-9 has moved down to +500. There is a belief that these two have a healthy respect for each other, but the urgency of the flight could lead to some more power shots getting through late.
The head says a win for Beterbiev by decision. But the heart kind of goes for the fight to end in rounds 10-12 at +550 for our betting pick.
