There is a huge disparity between India sweeping the series and England doing the same. The best cricket betting sites clearly see India as the superior team in the longer white-ball format.
India
India is in a strong place in 50-over cricket.
Rohit Sharma’s team lost the final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup to Australia. But along with the Aussies, India looked head-and-shoulders the best team in the tournament. Furthermore, India is the No.1 ranked 50-over team in the world.
The hosts have named a 16-man squad to face England. 15 of the players selected will be the squad that will represent India in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
The extra name in the lineup is Harshit Rana. The right arm quick has been selected as cover for Jasprit Bumrah, who still has concerns about his fitness.
Bumrah sat out the recent T20 series against England, but despite his break, he still hasn’t fully recovered from the back injury that dogged him at the end of the tour of Australia.
India has Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli available for the ODI team. Both have retired from the T20 format, but are still available for the longer white-ball format. Also returning to the squad after sitting out the T20s is Rishabh Pant.
The full India squad is:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja.
England
Like in the T20 series, the England ODI team will have their new white-ball head coach, Brendon McCullum, in charge of the 50 Over team for the first time in this series.
The 4-1 thrashing in the T20 series would have been an eye-opener for McCullum. England looked miles off the pace at times, and the head coach could find his team struggling even more in the longer format of the white ball game.
England won the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. They failed miserably in their defense of the trophy in 2023. And they now find themselves ranked No.7 in the world. Their fall from grace has been nothing short of embarrassing and shocking.
The rebuild starts here. But such is England’s current status in the 50-over game, McCullum has a hell of a job on his hands to get this team back anywhere near where they used to be.
Joe Root is back in the ranks. The world’s No.1 Test batter doesn’t feature for England in the T20 game. England will hope Root can recreate his Test match form in the white ball arena.
The full England squad is:
Jos Buttler (Captain), Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith (wk), Philip Salt (wk), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Mark Wood.
India vs. England ODI Best bets
Onto our cricket picks, and this is screaming out home win.
India is the more settled 50-over team. They will use this short series to fine-tune the team ahead of the Champions Trophy.
With Brendon McCullum taking charge of England in an ODI series for the first time, the visitors are almost starting from scratch. England obviously has an idea of what their strongest team is, but they are miles behind India in terms of preparation.
The hosts might not be able to call on Jasprit Bumrah. But as India showed in the T20 series, they can easily take care of England without their premier quick bowler. We don’t see his absence having any impact on the outcome of this series.
Rohit Sharma’s team is very short to win the series at -333. So our pick is for India to win the series 2-1 at +120.
