Verstappen favored in Barcelona
Max Verstappen (-190) rebounded from a sixth-place finish in Monaco to top the podium at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. With the win in Montreal, the Dutchman hasn’t lost back-to-back races in over 700 days. A streak that goes back to July 2022.
Coming off his 60th career victory, the 26-year-old believes his RB20 will perform even better in Spain. “Even in the Canadian GP, we struggled a lot with the kerbing and the bumps,” said Verstappen. “So we can definitely improve the car by quite a big margin if we get that under control.”

Ferrari falls further behind
How quickly things change. Just two weeks after winning his home race in Monaco, Charles Leclerc (+750) was forced to retire from the Canadian GP. Following his worst result of the season, the Monegasque driver is now 56 points back of Verstappen in the drivers’ standings.
His teammate Carlos Sainz (+2500) also failed to finish the Montreal race, spinning out on lap 54. With two DNFs, Ferrari went from 24 points back of Red Bull in the constructors’ standings to 49 points back of the championship.
McLaren still surging
Lando Norris (+475) has four top-two finishes in the past five events. Oscar Piastri (+2000) also finished a respectable fifth place. Not bad for a McLaren team that hadn’t even scored a single point on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since 2014.
Norris is only seven points back of Leclerc for second place in the drivers’ standings, while McLaren is 40 points behind Ferrari for second in the constructors’ championship. Hoping to continue its momentum, the team has teased another round of upgrades to its MCL60 challenger ahead of the Spanish GP.

Hope for Mercedes?
George Russell (+2500) picked up his first podium of 2024 at the Canadian GP, executing a lap 68 pass of teammate Lewis Hamilton (+2500), who also finished a season-best fourth place. After a new front wing made Mercedes competitive in Montreal, the German manufacturer is expected to add a new floor to the W15 before the next race.
Hamilton won five Spanish GPs in a row between 2017 and 2021 and finished second to Verstappen last year, while Russell is coming consecutive third-place finishes at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Best Bet
With Mercedes suddenly becoming competitive, the Spanish Grand Prix is shaping up as the race of the year. We’ll take Verstappen at -190 to win, with a +2500 longshot bet on Russell.
