Max Verstappen secured his eighth win of the 2024 season with victory in Round 21 at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The win was season-defining. Not only did Verstappen win the race from 17th on the grid, but he also all but secured his fourth-successive world championship as his nearest rival Lando Norris could only manage a P6 finish.
As a result, Verstappen can now secure a championship that looked set to go to the final race of the season in Vegas.
86 points remain up for grabs this season. Verstappen (393) has a 62-point lead over Norris (331). There will only be 60 points remaining after this race.
A win for Verstappen in Sin City would confirm the championship. If Verstappen doesn’t win the race, Norris needs to outscore the Dutchman by three points to keep the championship race alive at Round 23 in Qatar.
Whatever the outcome in Vegas, the game looks up for Norris.
Even if he takes the maximum 26 points in Vegas and Verstappen takes none, the Dutchman would only need 24 points from the final two races to clinch the championship (Verstappen wins if the drivers finish level on points as he won more races this season).
The bookmakers certainly think the Drivers’ Championship is a done deal. Verstappen is now -5000, with Norris at +1600. The shift in betting odds over the last couple of races has been sensational. Ahead of Round 19 in Austin, Verstappen was -175 and Norris was +135.
Betting to win the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix
The best Formula 1 betting sites have Verstappen and Norris as the +225 joint favorites to win the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Recognizing the threat the two Ferraris pose, the bookmakers have Charles Leclerc as the +275 third-favorite, and Carlos Sainz as the +600 fourth-favorite.
Oscar Piastri is next at +1200, and the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are both at +2800. The missing-in-action Sergio Perez is +10000.
In the winning car betting, Ferrari is the favorite at +150. McLaren is +160 and Red Bull is +210.

McLaren favorite for Constructors’ Championship win
McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella may find themselves having to make a difficult call in Vegas.
The McLaren team has recently backed Lando Norris in his attempts to catch Max Verstappen, regularly asking his Aussie teammate Oscar Piastri to sacrifice himself in favor of the British driver.
Brown and Stella have now got to decide where the team’s priorities lie.
There is still an outside chance Norris could win the world championship, but McLaren sits atop the Constructors’ Championship with 593 points (Ferrari has 557 and Red Bull 544).
McLaren are the -650 betting favorites to win the Constructors’ Championship. But many more poor weekends like the one they suffered in Brazil could open the door to Ferrari (+400) catching them.
It may be harsh to say Norris has blown it, but that’s the reality. McLaren could now decide to focus on the Constructors’ Championship throughout the weekend.
And that could have an impact on the outcome of the race, as Piastri would no longer be treated as the supporting act to Norris. He would all of a sudden become a live option to win the race.
Our 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix betting picks and predictions
Max Verstappen was victorious in the first and only running of this race in 2023. But back then things were different as Red Bull was dominant.
Verstappen knows a race win here will secure the title. He also knows if he finishes within three points of Norris, he will win the title. We know that Verstappen is a competitor, and rather than trying to mark Norris, the chances are the Dutchman will want the race victory.
Despite this, we don’t see Verstappen winning the race. His car wasn’t head and shoulder above the other cars in the paddock in Brazil, far from it.
As the best driver, the wet conditions helped Verstappen work his way through the field, and McLaren’s team strategy also played out favorably for the Dutchman.
But Vegas will be different. It’s one of the faster circuits on the F1 roster, and on current form that should suit McLaren and Ferrari more than Red Bull.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have both been in good form lately. So we feel that a bet on any Ferrari to win the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix makes the most sense.
