2025 World Men’s Curling Championship Preview
Typically, we would start our preview of the upcoming World Men’s Curling Championship by taking a look at the betting odds. The issue is, the best offshore sportsbooks have yet to post lines. This is because the event is still too far out in the distance. But the mind can imagine the following teams will likely be betting favorites:
Country | |||
Sweden | TBD | TBD | TBD |
Canada | TBD | TBD | TBD |
Scotland | TBD | TBD | TBD |
United States | TBD | TBD | TBD |
Why these teams, you ask? Because history tells us these are the powerhouses of the sport — then, now, and for the foreseeable future. This event has been around since 1959. In the time since, two countries have dominated the field.
The first is, you guessed it, the Canadians. They own a whopping 36 gold medals in this event, plus 14 silvers and 7 bronze. They’ve medaled almost every single year. Canada has proven their dominance in this event, womens, doubles — the country is famous for its curling prowess
Then there’s Sweden. They’ve earned the second-most gold medals at 12. But here’s the thing: they’ve won half of them in recent times. Since 2015, Sweden has won this title six out of nine times. That’s a staggering amount (Canada has two and Finland has one). So expect these three countries all to be odds-on favorites once 2025 lines are out.
Anyways, all 13 teams are set for competition. Eight will come from the recent 2024 European Curling Championships (Austria, Czechia, Germany, Norway, Italy, Scotland, Sweden, and Switzerland), another 4 come via the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships (Japan, China, South Korea, and the United), then Canada gets an automatic spot because they’re hosting the event. The only real surprise among the entrants is Austria, who qualified for the first time since 2002. Besides that, it’s all the usual suspects.
These 13 teams will square off in a round-robin stage. The six-best teams advance to the playoffs — with one and two seeds skipping the first round entirely. From there, it’s a single-elimination tournament until someone is crowned champion of the world. Again, the typical way these things go. But you’re here for expert betting advice, and we got that in the next section.
Who To Bet To Win 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship?
We’ll be dead honest here, we could barely bring ourselves to make a single pick on the World Curling Championship winner. Why? Because it’s going to be razor close up top between the powerhouse teams. The way we see it, bettors are best off laying money on two of them and letting the better team win out. So long as each pick ends up plus-money odds, you can still make profit even though one is a guaranteed loser. But which two teams? We’re vouching for these ones:
Sweden
No one should be surprised about this pick. As we mentioned earlier, Sweden has become THE team to bet over the past decade. Nothing has changed, as evidenced by their number-one world ranking.
Not only that, but the Swedes seem to have Canada’s number. Of the six titles Sweden won over this stretch, five came against Canada in the finals. So don’t think there’s any fear if they meet up again, even though Canada are the hosts.
All in all, Sweden is a complete team that plays together exceptionally well. Skip Niklas Edin is a game-changer even though his individual ranking isn’t particularly high. Still, he’s proven he can deliver under pressure, and that’s what’ll be needed at this event. This is an easy bet for us until Sweden is dethroned as the best in the world.
Scotland
To the surprise of some, we’re skipping a bet on Canada entirely. Nothing against them, we just think there will be more betting value for Scotland once the odds are out. They’ll likely be the third favorite, and we like those chances.
In Scotland, bettors get a European powerhouse. They’ve won three of the past four European titles. Sure, only one ended in gold at the World Championships, but we still like the Scottish’s chances here. When you have a world-class player like Bruce Mouat leading the Scottish team, you always have a shot at gold.
Where To Bet 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship?
It’s not as easy to bet on World Men’s Curling Championship as you might think. That’s because many sportsbooks don’t offer betting on curling. However, the five sites we’ve listed below surely do. Again, you’ll have to wait for them to post lines, but they will do it once the event draws near.
What’s more, these sportsbooks offer killer sign-up bonuses. With these bonuses, bettors are afforded hundreds to thousands of dollars in free play. That money will come in handy for all the round-robin betting that awaits once the championship begins.
