The Bundesliga stands as the top division in Germany’s table tennis league system. Established in the 1966-67 season with eight teams, it has operated annually ever since, although the number of teams has varied over the years. In the 2024-25 season, 12 teams are set to compete.
The season unfolds in two main stages: the Rankings phase and the Playoffs. Before the season kicks off, each team registers between 3 to 6 players, assigning them specific positions from 1st through 6th, with positions 4 through 6 designated as substitutes.
Matches take the form of group competitions, each consisting of five games in a best-of-three format. The first four games are singles, while the fifth is a doubles match. The doubles pairing is determined following the second singles game.
During the Rankings phase, each team plays home and away matches against all other league teams. The top four teams at the end of this phase advance to the Playoffs, where the champion of the Bundesliga is ultimately decided.
The German Bundesliga Playoffs
In the first round of the Playoffs, the top seed faces off against the fourth seed, while the second and third seeds compete against each other.
