How NLL Season Works
The NLL is a box lacrosse league that began play in 1998. There are currently 14 teams in the league – eight in the USA and six in Canada. Among indoor North American pro sports, only the NBA and NHL outdraw the NLL in terms of spectator support.
There are 21 weeks of play during the NLL regular season. Regular-season action began in late November and will continue through the third week of April. Each team plays an 18-game season. The top eight teams in the standings qualify for the playoffs. The opening round is single-elimination, while the semifinals and championship are best-of-three series.

Bandits Dominant Force In NLL Odds
Buffalo wasn’t exactly flexing during the regular season in 2024. The defending champs went 11-7 and finished fourth overall. However, this is a team that knows how to win when it matters most. The Bandits swept through the postseason without tasting defeat, going 5-0. Coached by lacrosse legend John Tavares, Buffalo has played in an NLL-record 13 National Lacrosse League Cup finals, winning six times.

They suit up the last two NLL Cup MVPs in Dhane Smith (2023) and Josh Byrne (2024). Regular season MVP Byrne (53-82-135) led the NLL scoring race last season. He would wind up one point ahead of Smith (33-101-134). Goalie Matt Vinc was third in the league in wins (11), fourth in save percentage (.781) and fifth in goals-against average (11.34).
Rock In A Hard Place
Like Buffalo, the Toronto Rock own six NLL Cup titles. They were the first-place team last season with a 15-3 record and are perennially a contender in the NLL odds. But in the playoffs, Toronto was swept by the Bandits in the semifinals. You have to go back to 2011 to the find the most recent championship season for the Rock.
Backstopping the league’s top defense, Rock goalie Nick Rose is a brick wall, leading the league in wins (15), save percentage (.811) and GAA (9.18). He was named NLL Goaltender of the Year. Mark Matthews led the team in scoring with 98 points. Tom Schreiber counted 76 points while playing just 13 games.
Can Seals Finally Seal The Deal?
Everyone is waiting on the day when the San Diego Seals finally go all the way. They are a regular season juggernaut. In franchise history, the Seals have never finished worse than second in regular-season play. Overall, San Diego is 22 games above .500 while displaying a plus-96 goal differential. Over the same span in the postseason the Seals are 3-6 with a minus-eight goal differential.
Wesley Berg was the Seals’ top scorer with 41 goals and 108 points. Goaltender Christopher Origlieri wound up second in wins (13) and GAA (9.77). Unfortunately, 50-goal scorer Austin Staat will miss the season through injury. Adding defensive dynamo Zach Currier should make the league’s No. 2 defense even stingier. Over his six-season NLL career, Currier is the league leader in total caused turnovers.
Longshots Worthy Of Consideration In NLL Odds
Just about everything fell into place last season for the Albany Firewolves (+1000). Alex Simmons won NLL rookie of the year. Glenn Clark was named GM of the Year. Runner up for Goaltender of the Year, Doug Jamieson was one of two netminders in the league with a save percentage of .800. The Firewolves reached the NLL final before falling to Buffalo.
The Vancouver Warriors (+1800) were among the league’s hottest teams in the second half of the 2024 NLL season. They finished 6-2, but a 2-8 start scuttled Vancouver’s season. As that outcome would suggest, consistency has proven elusive for the Warriors. Keegan Bal led the team last season with 49-56-105 totals.
And The Winner Is?
As wrestler Ric Flair famously noted, to be the best you’ve got to beat the best. And the Bandits aren’t going anywhere.
This is a deep, experienced squad that is returning all of the key components. Take Buffalo to threepeat as champions in the NLL odds.
