Unlike a lot of regular-season darts competitions, the World Championship is played across sets, rather than legs. All sets are the best of five legs. The 1st and 2nd Rounds are the best of five sets, with the 3rd and 4th Rounds best of seven. The quarter-finals are the best of nine, with the semi-finals played over the best of 11 and the final over a marathon best of 13.
Who are the Top Seeds?
Michael Smith (+1400) is the defending champion, and he is also the first seed. The second seed is Michael van Gerwen, the most successful current darts player at the World Championship with three titles to his name. Man of the moment Luke Humphries is the third seed, with Peter Wright seeded four and Gerwyn Price seeded five.
Because of how the seeding worked out, Michael Smith finds himself in the first of four sections, and the top half of the draw. In Smith’s section is Gerwyn Price, and they are joined in the top half of the draw by the No.4 seed Peter Wright (Section 2).
In the bottom half of the draw, Michael van Gerwen is in Section 3, and Luke Humphries is in Section 4. This puts the two players on a possible collision course in the semi-final.
On the props betting lines, you can get -140 on the winner coming from the bottom half of the draw and +110 on the winner coming from the top.
Betting to win the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship?
The betting favorite to win the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship is the in-form player in World Darts, Luke Humphries. The Englishman has won three ranking events in the past six weeks, and as a result, the bookmakers have him at the top of the betting to win his maiden World Darts Championship.
Humphries is +325 to win his first-ever world title. Michael Van Gerwen is right behind the No.3 seed at +350. MVG was at +400 just a couple of weeks ago but has seen his odds shorten as money comes in for the three-time world champion.
There is a gap in the betting between the two favorites and the rest of the field. Third in the betting is the 2021 champion, Gerwyn Price +600. The rejuvenated two-time world champion Gary Anderson is next at +1200, with the defending champion Michael Smith now out at +1400. Smith was +1200 a couple of weeks ago.
Making up the rest of the betting favorites is the 2018 champion Rob Cross, at +1600, with the 2020 and 2022 champion Peter Wright at +2200.
The only person in the seven leading candidates to have not won a world championship is the favorite, Luke Humphries. We have used odds from the best online darts betting sites. For more information about the sportsbooks listed, please visit our free bets and promotions page.

Our Picks to Win the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship
We are naming one player from each half of the draw for our betting picks.
We mentioned earlier in the article that Luke Humphries is the only player in the top seven betting favorites to have never won the World Championship. Not only that, he has never even made it beyond the quarter-finals.
He’s good enough to win it. Of that, there is no doubt. But the pressure on Humphries will be intense. If he makes it to the final, it would be some achievement. But we feel that even getting to the final is unlikely, as he may have to play MVG over the best of 11 in the semi-final.
Expect MVG to see off Humphries
Our first pick to win is Michael van Gerwen at +350. He knows this format well. And we feel he will have too much for Humphries in a head-to-head over 11 sets.
The top half of the draw is brutal. Defending champion Michael Smith is in there, along with Peter Wright, Rob Cross, Gary Anderson, and Gerwyn Price. Whoever comes through that will probably be emotionally and mentally drained by the time they reach the final, and it might explain why, in the props betting, the winner to come from the bottom half of the draw is the favorite at -140.
Price value at +600
The name and odds that stand out most amongst all those world champions is Gerwyn Price. The IceMan has seen his level drop a touch lately. But he has been probably the most consistent performer on the tour this season, and if he can get through the early rounds and get some momentum going, we feel Price is a worthy pick at odds of +600.
