Rock and Firewolves atop the NLL
Toronto (+300) and Albany (+500) sat atop the National Lacrosse League standings heading into week 15 with 10-2 records. That matches the best-ever mark for the Rock franchise through 12 games.
Due to renovations to their home arena, the Rock have been playing out of nearby Hamilton, Ontario this season. That’s clearly agreeing with Mark Matthews. After recording 17 points in the last two games, the team’s leading scorer is averaging almost five points per game this year.

Top contenders in NLL
Albany (+500) is tied for the top spot in the league at 10-2 after finishing 2023 with a miserable 3-15 record. While this is just the FireWolves’ third year in upper state New York, the franchise started as the Philadelphia Wings. Like the Rock, the Wings hold six all-time NLL championships.
San Diego (+550) sits in third in the standings with a 8-4 record after a tight 15-13 loss to the Rock in week 14. The Seals placed first in the regular season in each of the past two years before flaming out in the postseason. Forward Austin Staats is second in the NLL with 36 goals in 12 games.
Best Longshots
Calgary (+2000) fell to an ugly 5-7 following Friday’s tough 13-12 loss to the Swarm. However, the Roughnecks have picked up their play over the last month.
Saskatchewan (+5000) is in even worse shape at 4-6 after suffering a 15-14 defeat at the hands of the Bandits in Week 15. But, prior to that loss, the Rush had won three of their past five games so the postseason isn’t entirely out of the question.

Other teams in the mix
Halifax (+600) is in fourth place with a 7-5 record, but the Thunderbirds shouldn’t get too comfortable. Only the top eight clubs make the postseason and there are five teams behind them in the standings with five or more victories. Georgia (+800) is coming off a 12-11 win over Halifax. The Swarm are now 8-6 and in fifth place.
Best Bet
Buffalo (+800) has the two top point scorers in the NLL on their roster. Josh Byrne has 32 goals and 52 assists for a league-leading 87 points while Dhane Smith trails closely behind with 83 points (15 G, 68 A).
The Bandits’ firepower will make them a tough out in the playoffs if they can squeak in.
