The third event of the 2025 PGA Tour, the 2025 American Express, kicked off on Thursday, January 16. The event, which takes place at La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California runs through Sunday, January 19. The first PGA Tour event of the West Coast Swing sports an $8.8 million prize purse with the winner getting $1.58 million. The victor also picks up 500 FedEx Cup points. Of the 17 regular-season PGA events, the American Express tournament ranks 12th in terms of prize money.
Last year, Nick Dunlap won the American Express as an amateur. With his victory, Dunlap became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour tournament since Phil Mickelson accomplished that feat in 1991 when he won the Northern Telecom Open in Tucson, Arizona. Dunlap finished in the top 10 in last week’s Sony Open.
