New York Yankees season so far

As usual the Yankees have been one of the standout teams in the MLB so far this season, and their record stands out as one of the best across the league.

They started off the campaign with five wins a row over the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks, before losses in two of their next three against Arizona and the Toronto Blue Jays. But they bounced back with a great run of six wins in their next seven to move up the standings in their division. They then fell to three losses in a row before going 7-6 in their next 13 to end the month 19-12.

May was a spectacular month for New York however as they won an incredible 75% of their games, for a record of 21-7. They opened with a win and defeat to the Baltimore Orioles, before five wins in a row against the Detroit Tigers and Astros. They lost two of three following that but responded with seven victories in a row including three-peats over the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox, before consecutive defeats to the Mariners. They ended the month with another winning run of seven in nine.

June started very well for them as they opened the month with nine wins in 11, although they suffered back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle of that. However, they managed just five wins in the rest of the month and went on two, three and four-game losing streaks to end the month with an overall record of 54-32.

July hasn’t started great either, and they’ve lost their spot at the top of the standings after going 4-8 before the All-Star game break, and come into this game with six defeats in their last ten games.

Tampa Bay Rays season so far

The Rays have struggled this season to really gather any momentum, and it shows when you look at their results on a month-by-month basis.

Tampa went 5-5 in their opening ten games of the campaign against the Blue Jays, Rangers and Rockies, before a three-game winning streak with two victories against the Angels and then one over the Giants. But they wouldn’t win consecutive games again in April as they went on a run of 11 defeats in 17 games to end the month with a 14-17 record.

May was another strange month as they claimed a 14-13 record, picking up five wins in a row over the Mets and White Sox after an initial opening defeat to the Brewers. The Rays then lost four of their next six games before another impressive winning run saw them claim victory in their next four over the Red Sox and Blue Jays. That led to a horrible six-game losing streak though, before they ended the month with three wins from their final five.

June saw Tampa face off with the Orioles six times in their first eight games of the month and they only managed to win once, with a four-game losing streak capping off that run. After a hot and cold run they ended the month with a run of eight wins in 11 to move to 14-12 for the month.

So far in July they have gone 6-6 before the All-Star game break, with three wins in their last four including two over the Guardians to come into this game with an even 48-48 record.

MLB Picks: New York Yankees to win

So far this season the Yankees have been far superior to the Rays in almost every aspect, so it’s no surprise that they are the ones being tipped for victory in this game.

New York rank first across the entire MLB for runs scored with 488, while they rank fourth across the league for on-base percentage (.329) and slugging percentage (.426), compared to the Rays who rank 28th for runs scored (376), 16th for on-base percentage (.311) and 25th for slugging percentage (.370).

Star players Juan Soto and Aaron Judge are coming off winning performances in the All-Star game too and they’ll be ready to step back into regular season mode and lead the team to a dominant win, and get back to winning ways after some really tricky form in recent times.
