The MLB season continues today as the Kansas City Royals prepare to take on the Cleveland Guardians on the road once again in a clash at the very top of the league and American League Central standings.
The Guardians are one of the best-performing teams in the league this season with an overall record of 75-57 so far in the American League Central, while the Royals on the other hand are having a fantastic time too with an overall record of 74-58.

Cleveland Guardians season so far
The Guardians started the season fantastically with three consecutive wins over the Oakland Athletics, going on a run of six wins in seven games after their first two defeats of the season. New York Yankees beat them in consecutive games next, before a win in their next game against New York kickstarted a run of nine wins in ten games. Cleveland lost four of their next six to end the month with a 19-10 record, but looked in good spirits.
May had a poor start as Cleveland lost six of their first 11 games, including three in a row against the Chicago White Sox. But they bounced back to win 14 of their next 17 games, which included a stunning nine-game winning streak to boost them to a 38-19 record.
June was less successful, but they once again managed a winning record despite a difficult start. After losing three of their first five games, they won four of their next five games. The Guardians then put together a seven-game winning run including three in a row over the Blue Jays, before ending the month with four defeats in five.
July wasn’t very good either but they just about secured a winning record, going 13-12. After alternating wins and losses in the opening five games they went on to lose five of their next eight games leading into the All-Star break. They ended the month going 7-5, including three wins in a row to close it out.
So far in August they’ve had their worst month, going 10-15 at the time of writing. They had a horror run of seven defeats in a row before finally bouncing back with a five-game winning run. They then lost their next two and lost a mini-series against the Yankees and they have lost each of their last two against the Royals so far, but will hope to snap that streak here.
Kansas City Royals season so far
Kansas have had a pretty successful campaign so far this season, but it started poorly back in March and April with four defeats in their opening six games. They quickly bounced back however with seven consecutive wins against the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros. Some hot and cold form followed that as they finished out the month with three defeats, then four wins and three more defeats for a record of 18-13.
They moved into May and won three of their first five games before they won four of their next five, including three wins over the Los Angeles Angels. That was followed by two defeats against the Mariners, before they found form and went on a run of eight consecutive victories. All that hard work was undone though as they suffered defeat in five of their next six, to end the month with an overall record of 35-24.
June wasn’t a good time for the Royals however, despite starting with four wins in their first six games of the month. That was followed by four defeats in a row, which kickstarted a horror run of 11 defeats in 14 games. They ended the month by going 4-2, improving their overall record to 47-39.
In July they rediscovered their winning touch with eight wins, including eight in ten games and four in a row after the All-Star game. That run came to a halt thanks to four defeats to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs in five games, before seeing out the month with three wins in a row.
August has been pretty good for them too despite a run of six defeats in nine games at the start of the month. Since then they have found form once more after winning five in a row, and have won each of their last two games against the Guardians to come into this game with a 74-58 record.

MLB Picks: Cleveland Guardians to win
Despite some pretty poor form in recent weeks that has seen them go on a 3-7 run in their last ten games, Cleveland are still very much in the hunt for the World Series and know they need to find a way to make it click again.
Their pitching has been better than their batting across the season in terms of league-ranking metrics, while the Royals have been by far a better side the opposite way around.
With the home advantage, they surely must improve on their recent defeats against the same opposition and this is their best chance to do so.
