Seattle surging in standings

Seattle is coming off a three-game sweep of the Rangers, and have now won 16 of their last 21 games. Despite having the third-worst team batting average (.221), the Mariners’ nine game division lead is the biggest in baseball.

How, you ask?  They have four starting pitchers (Bryce Miller, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Luis Castillo) with a 1.15 WHIP or lower.

Dangerous Guardians lineup

Cleveland is just 5-5 in their last 10 contests after dropping two of three to the Blue Jays over the weekend. However, Stephen Vogt’s young club is still exceeding all expectations thanks to impressive defense and hitting.

Not only is José Ramírez on pace for 30 home runs. The veteran slugger is getting a ton of offensive support from Josh Naylor, David Fry and Steven Kwan, who has a .398 batting average through 43 games.

Cleveland vs Seattle

Cleveland is -122 on the money line while the Mariners are +104 to pick up the victory at Progressive Field. With a 21-8 home record heading into the series, the Guardians are -205 to cover the +1.5 run line on Wednesday. Seattle is 16-19 on the road this season. Scott Servais’ squad is +168 to cover the -1.5 spread.

The over/under has been set at 8.5 total runs. Cleveland is the fifth-highest scoring team in the league, averaging 4.94 runs per game, while Seattle’s 3.89 mark is bottom-six in baseball. The Mariners are only permitting 3.64 runs per game to opponents (5th), just a notch better than the Guardians’ 3.70 (6th).

Pitching matchup

Bryan Woo (3-0) missed the past two weeks with right forearm discomfort. Before his time off, the 24-year-old had compiled an impressive 1.07 ERA and 0.53 WHIP in six starts for the Mariners while striking out 24 batters.

Tanner Bibee (4-2) had 11 Ks in his last start against the Reds, but still took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in five innings. Bibee has a 3.94 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 87:20 K:BB in 11 outings for the Guardians.

Best Bet

While Seattle has struggled on the road, they’ve been the hotter team of late. With Woo on the mound, we’ll take the Mariners’ money line (+104) with the UNDER 8.5 runs (-105).
