Detroit Tigers season so far
Detroit started the season in perfect fashion as they won each of their opening five games with three wins over the Chicago White Sox and two wins over the New York Mets. However that was followed that up with four losses in their next five games, and then six defeats in the following 11 games beyond that. They ended April with a run of six wins in nine as they racked up a 17-13 record.
May was horrendous for Detroit, as they suffered six losses in their opening eight games of the month, which then followed up with a run of five defeats in a row including three consecutive losses to the Kansas City Royals. They ended the month with five wins from seven to get some momentum back and end with their overall record at 28-29.
June was even worse for the Tigers as they registered a 10-17 record for the month. Despite winning three of their first four games, they lost ten of their next 13 in a horrific run of form and ended the month with a four-game losing streak.
They got back into their groove in July with a 14-11 record, which included a fantastic run of 11 wins in 14 games at one point. A lot of that good work was undone towards the end of the month however as they then lost six of their final eight games.
So far in August they have gone 14-9 and have rediscovered their winning touch recently. Despite losing six of their opening nine games of the month, the Tigers have won 11 of their last 14 including each of their last four to enter this game with a record of 66-66 and keep themselves in the mix for a potential playoff spot.
Los Angeles Angels season so far
Los Angeles have had a really poor season so far and are essentially counting down until the end of the campaign at this point. They started their season with back-to-back defeats to the Baltimore Orioles before four wins on the bounce looked to get fans excited about the upcoming season. However, that was followed up by a shocking run of just seven wins in their next 24 games to see them end April with a poor record of 11-19.
In May things didn’t get much better for the Angels as they started off with four defeats in five, with their only victory coming in a brilliant performance against the Cleveland Guardians. After that, they claimed consecutive wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates, before once again falling to a run of five defeats in six. The Angels got some form back with six wins in their next nine, before ending the month with six defeats in seven to finish with an overall record of 21-36.
The form picked up in June however as they earned their first and only winning record for a calendar month of the season, picking up 15 wins. They beat the San Diego Padres in three straight games and then managed to end the month with a run of six consecutive victories in their final seven games.
After losing their first four games in July, they earned a win over the Chicago Cubs before losing their next three in a row. They then claimed four wins in their next five before the All-Star break, before winning four of their next six after returning. But since then it has been all downhill.
In August the Angels have lost 16 of 23 games so far, including a run off 11 defeats in their last 13 games to come into this one with an overall record of 54-77.

MLB Picks: Detroit Tigers to win
Statistically this game should be a wash in favor of the Tigers, but in their four meetings so far this season it’s actually the Angels who come out on top in the head-to-head 3-1.
However, their form coming into this game is absolutely abysmal and they essentially have nothing but professional pride to play for, barring an incredible twist in their fortunes between now and the end of the season.
Detroit know they need to keep winning to stand any chance of getting a Wild Card spot for the playoffs, so expect them to continue their good form and extend their winning streak. At odds of -149 they’re good value to do it too.
