The MLB season has reached the business point of the year, with the top six teams in the National League set to compete for the AL Pennant and a place in the 2024 World Series over the course of the next few weeks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had the best season so far and come into the playoffs as the number one seed, but they’ll have stiff competition to secure their place in the big championship series to prove they’re the best team in the league, with rivals hitting good form at the right time.

Los Angeles Dodgers (+170)
The Dodgers have not only secured the NL East division title, but they’ve done it in super impressive fashion by accumulating the best record in the entire MLB by going 98-64. Crazily enough though, no team had a smaller gap between the title winners and runners-up, so it shows they have fierce competition.
It is not surprising that Los Angeles are among the favorites to win the National League in the 2024 MLB season. Bringing in Shohei Ohtani is the biggest move any team made going into this year, but bringing in Teoscar Hernandez and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were also major moves which contributed to their success.
Ohtani’s versatility has made him one of the best we’ve ever seen in MLB history and now we will finally get to see him in a playoff setting that his talent and quality deserves. He hit 54 homers and took 59 bases this season, shattering the pre-season expectations anyone had after such a high-profile move and now comes into this highly motivated.
They don’t have anywhere close to as much starting pitching depth as they did earlier this season which could be a problem though. Yamamoto is back, and he is capable of shutting down good offenses, and Jack Flaherty has been excellent all season. Landon Knack is also in solid form, giving up two or fewer runs in 10 of 14 appearances.
The pressure is all on Ohtani performing, but he thrives in these situations and it’s hard to see the Dodgers not being successful and claiming the pennant for the first time since 2020.

Philadelphia Phillies – (+230)
It’s been a fantastic season for Philadelphia, as they accumulated a 95-67 record for the second-best run behind the Dodgers.
Last season the Phillies made a run to the NLCS as a Wild Card team, coming up short in a seven-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. But this year they have shown great progression within their team and are without doubt one of the best and most dangerous teams in the entire MLB never mind the National League.
They have arguably got the best and most complete roster with great depth and quality throughout the field, but there are question marks despite the fantastic campaign they’ve just had.
Phillies pitchers have gotten homer-happy at times this season. They’re good with the routine defensive play but not the spectacular. Seven playoff teams have better wRC+ than the Phillies.
Philadelphia are a very well-built team. There’s a reason the Phillies are tough to beat. The talent keeps coming. They went 5-1 against the Dodgers in the regular season too which can’t be ignored, so at +230 they’re a solid bet to go one step further than 2023.

San Diego Padres – (+450)
The Padres’ philosophy of loading up on stars has produced its finest group yet, and they have a great chance of not only winning the NL Pennant but also the World Series.
San Diego is going to be a trendy pick because of its bullpen which consists of the likes of Jason Adam and Bryan Hoeing and Tanner Scott. Combine them with Jeremiah Estrada, Adrian Morejon, Yuki Matsui and closer Robert Suarez and it is the nastiest bullpen in baseball.
The big names have a bat in their hand though with Jackson Merrill having a sensational season alongside the firing-again Fernando Tatis Jr. Manny Machado also had a surprisingly strong season as he finished one long ball shy of reaching 30 home runs and 100 RBIs for the second time in three years while they also have depth in Donovan Solano and David Peralta on the bench.
Dylan Cease has thrown fantastically in his first season with the Padres, and Michael King is not far behind. They have all the tools to beat anyone on any given day, it’s just whether or not they can make it click on the biggest stage. At +450, they’re definitely worth a look.
