Los Angeles Dodgers season so far

The Dodgers have been in fantastic form all season and opened their campaign with seven wins in their first nine games, including three wins over the St Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. But what followed was two defeats in three games to the Chicago Cubs before two successive wins over the Minnesota Twins and then seven losses in their next nine games.

That led to a change in their approach and they’ve since reaped the rewards, finishing May with seven wins in nine games, to end the month with a record of 19-13.

Los Angeles followed that up with a stunning run of seven consecutive wins to open the new month, defeating the Braves and Miami Marlins three times each consecutively. The San Diego Padres stopped their run with two wins in their three-game series, before the Dodgers returned to a run of six wins in eight games.

Five defeats in a row followed however, including back-to-back losses to the Arizona Diamondbacks, before three wins in a row saw them end May with an overall record of 36-23.

June was equally as good for them as they went 16-10. Los Angeles put together several three-game winning runs, before five wins in their final seven games of the month. So far in July they’ve struggled to put any momentum together until recently.

They opened with a victory over Arizona but lost the mini-series 2-1 against them, before winning two straight games against the Milwaukee Brewers. They followed that with four successive losses however, including three against the Philadelphia Phillies, before a 1-2 run against the Detroit Tigers before the All-Star break.

Since then they have won three games in a row against the Boston Red Sox, and come into this series with an overall record of 59-41.

San Francisco Giants season so far

So far this season the Giants have had a mixed campaign and it started out with four defeats in their opening six games, including four in a row against the Padres and Dodgers. The rest of the opening month was hot and cold, with the team never winning or losing more than two games consecutively at any point, ending April with a 14-16 record.

May started badly again with five defeats in six, including four-in-a-row against the Phillies, and after stopping that run by going 4-4 in their next eight with wins over the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds, they picked up their form. From there they won an impressive 11 of their next 13 games, ending the month with an overall record of 19-19.

Four defeats to start June made it six in a row though, before three consecutive victories got them back on track for a short while. After blowing hot and cold for the next few games, the Giants fell to five straight losses to the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Cardinals. Following that however, San Francisco won five of their next seven to close the month out with a record of 41-44.

July has so far been a maze of inconsistency for the team as they have put together a run of 7-8 without winning or losing three games in a row at any point. Their overall record for the season stands at 48-52 coming into this series.

MLB Picks: LA Dodgers to get the win

The Dodgers have been in fantastic form since the All-Star break, with star man Shohei Ohtani leading the way as usual.

LA have scored the most runs in the MLB so far this season with 499, compared to just 436 from the Giants which ranks them in 15th in the league. The Dodgers also have the best on-base percentage of any team in the league (.334) compared to the Giants’ .313 which has them in 13th, and the second-best slugging percentage (.439) compared to San Francisco”s (.391) which puts them in 18th for that metric.

The Dodgers have won 62.2% of games they were favorite going into this season, and having already beaten the Giants on six of nine occasions this season, the likelihood is that they get the job done once again in front of their home fans.
