The MLB season continues today as the New York Yankees prepare to take on the Cleveland Guardians in a clash at the very top of the league standings.
The Yankees are one of the best-performing teams in the league this season with an overall record of 73-53 so far in the American League East, while the Guardians on the other hand are having a fantastic time too with an overall record of 73-52 in the American League Central.

New York Yankees season so far
In a surprise to absolutely nobody, the Yankees have been one of the standout teams across the entire MLB this season.
They season began with five wins in a row over the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks, before losses in two of their next three against Arizona and the Toronto Blue Jays. They bounced back with a fantastic run of six wins in their next seven to establish themselves as favorites for the division once again. They ended the month by going 7-6 in their next 13, finishing the month with an impressive record of 19-12.
May was a spectacular month for New York as they won an incredible 75% of their games, for an excellent record of 21-7. After alternating a win and loss against the Baltimore Orioles, they racked up five wins in a row against the Detroit Tigers and Astros. They then lost two of their next three, but responded with seven victories in a row including three-peats over the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox. The month ended with another winning run of seven in nine to show their dominance and shoot them up the standings.
June started with nine wins in 11, although they suffered back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle of that. But the season went in a downward spiral after that as they managed just five wins in the rest of the month and went on two, three and four-game losing streaks to end the month in disappointing fashion with an overall record of 54-32.
July was poor and was the first time they lost more games than they won, ending the month with an 11-13 record, including seven defeats in their opening nine games. They bounced back after the All-Star break however, to end the month with five straight wins and have carried the better form into August.
So far in August they have gone 8-8, including defeats in each of their last three games heading into this one to give them an overall record of 73-53.
Cleveland Guardians season so far
The Guardians started the season fantastically with three consecutive wins over the Oakland Athletics, but then fell to two consecutive defeats before going on a run of six wins in seven games. The Yankees beat them in consecutive games next, before a win in their next game against New York kickstarted a run of nine wins in ten games. Cleveland lost four of their next six to end the month with a 19-10 record.
May didn’t have an ideal start as they lost six of their first 11 games, including three in a row against the Chicago White Sox. But they bounced back to win 14 of their next 17 games, which included a stunning nine-game winning streak to boost them to a 38-19 record.
June wasn’t quite as successful but they still managed a winning record despite a difficult start, where they lost three of their first five games. They won four of their next five games before a three-game losing streak. The Guardians then put together a seven-game winning run including three in a row over the Blue Jays, before ending the month with four defeats in five.
July wasn’t very good either but they just about secured a winning record, going 13-12. After alternating wins and losses in the opening five games they went on to lose five of their next eight games leading into the All-Star break. They ended the month going 7-5, including three wins in a row to close it out.
So far in August they’ve had their worst month, going 8-10 at the time of writing. They had a horror run of seven defeats in a row before finally bouncing back with a five-game winning run. They then lost their next two, but beat the Yankees in their last outing to hold a 73-52 record.
