The MLB season continues today as the New York Yankees prepare to travel to take on the Detroit Tigers with both teams coming off the back of some good form after difficult periods.
The Yankees are one of the best-performing teams in the league this season with an overall record of 72-50 so far in the American League East, while the Tigers on the other hand are having a tough time with an overall record of 58-63 in the American League Central.

Detroit Tigers season so far
Detroit started the season in perfect fashion as they won each of their opening five games with three wins over the Chicago White Sox and two wins over the New York Mets. But they followed that up with four losses in their next five games, and then six defeats in the following 11 games beyond that. They ended April with a run of six wins in nine as they racked up a 17-13 record.
May was horrendous for Detroit though as they suffered six losses in their opening eight games of the month, which then followed up with a run of five defeats in a row including three consecutive losses to the Kansas City Royals. They ended the month with five wins from seven to get some momentum back and end with their record at 28-29.
June was even worse for the Tigers as they had a 10-17 record for the month. Despite winning three of their first four games, they lost ten of their next 13 in a horrific run of form. They then alternated wins and losses in their next five games, before ending the month with a four-game losing streak in a 1-4 run.
They got back into their groove in July with a 14-11 record, which included a fantastic run of 11 wins in 14 games at one point. A lot of that good work was undone towards the end of the month however as they then lost six of their final eight games. So far in August they have gone 6-6 but coming into this game on a three-game winning streak, with an overall record of 58-63.

New York Yankees season so far
As usual the Yankees have been one of the standout teams in the MLB so far this season, and their record stands out as one of the best across the league.
They started off the campaign with five wins a row over the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks, before losses in two of their next three against Arizona and the Toronto Blue Jays set them back a little. They bounced back with a fantastic run of six wins in their next seven to establish themselves as favorites for the division once again, before they then fell to three losses in a row. They ended the month by going 7-6 in their next 13, finishing the month with a record of 19-12.
May was a spectacular month for New York as they won an incredible 75% of their games, for an excellent record of 21-7. They opened with a win and defeat to the Baltimore Orioles, before five wins in a row against the Detroit Tigers and Astros. They lost two of their next three following that, but responded with seven victories in a row including three-peats over the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox They ended the month with another winning run of seven in nine to show their dominance.
June started very well for them as they opened the month with nine wins in 11, although they suffered back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle of that. But the season went in a downward spiral after that as they managed just five wins in the rest of the month and went on two, three and four-game losing streaks to end the month with an overall record of 54-32.
July was poor as they lost more games than they won, ending the month with an 11-13 record, including seven defeats in their opening nine games. They bounced back after the All-Star break however, to end the month with five straight wins and have carried the better form into August.
So far they haven’t had the best time despite a winning 7-5 record, which included back-to-back defeats to the Los Angeles Angels. Since then though they have won four of their last six games and come into this game on a two-game winning streak with an overall record of 72-50.
