Los Angeles Dodgers season so far

The Dodgers have been in fantastic form all season and opened their campaign with seven wins in their first nine games, including three wins over the St Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. But what followed was two defeats in three games to the Chicago Cubs before two successive wins over the Minnesota Twins and then seven losses in their next nine games.

That led to a change in their approach and they’ve since reaped the rewards, finishing May with seven wins in nine games, to end the month with a record of 19-13.

Los Angeles followed that up with a stunning run of seven consecutive wins to open the new month, defeating the Braves and Miami Marlins three times each consecutively. The San Diego Padres stopped their run with two wins in their three-game series, before the Dodgers returned to a run of six wins in eight games.

Five defeats in a row followed however, including back-to-back losses to the Arizona Diamondbacks, before three wins in a row saw them end May with an overall record of 36-23.

June was equally as good for them as they went 16-10. Los Angeles put together several three-game winning runs, before five wins in their final seven games of the month. Having gone 3-3 in July so far, they enter this game with an overall record of 55-36, having lost their most recent game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Philadelphia Phillies season so far

Philadelphia are undoubtedly the team to beat in the MLB this season, but that is not how they started the season. After losing their first two games of the season, the team essentially alternated losses for the next 14 games as they went 8-8. But they quickly found their rhythm after that with 11 wins in their next 13 to end April with a record of 20-11.

In May they continued their excellent form with wins over the Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays for a six-game win streak, before the Blue Jays claimed a surprise win. They then won five of their next six games against the Miami Marlins and New York Mets before another six-game winning streak. They then lost four of their last seven of the month, to end with a record of 40-18.

June was a successful month also, but they struggled to get the long winning streaks that they made a habit of earlier in the season, as they only managed to win back-to-back matches three times, and suffered 11 defeats in the process.

July has been their worst month for a while, going 3-3 so far and losing each of their last two games against the Atlanta Braves, heading into this mini-series against the Dodgers in bad form.

MLB Picks: Philadelphia to be successful

Philadelphia will have the advantage in the pitching matchup with Zach Wheeler on the hill, especially with the Dodgers without Mookie Betts who misses out due to a wrist injury. The veteran enters this matchup pitching extremely well, giving up just five earned runs over 19.2 innings in his last three starts. He’s struck out 20 during that span.

The Phillies have returned +582 combined on the money line in all games, which breaks into +476 at home and +423 when favored, so several betting trends are working in their favor.

Considering the pricing of the market, it’s worth taking a shot on the Phillies to win this game by at least two runs. The hitting matchup is lopsided at best, considering that both teams rank in the top seven of the league in runs scored per game, hits per game, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS and home runs.

The likelihood is that both teams will cancel each other out in that sense, which means it will come down to the better pitcher and as already mentioned, it’s Wheeler who has the edge for Philly.

Add to that fact that 22 of the last 25 wins Philadelphia have had have come via at least a two-run margin, then the value is there to back them to get the victory the same way.
