Phillies flying high
Philadelphia has the best win percentage (.692) in major league baseball through the first third of the season. Heading into their first series of the year with the Red Sox, Rob Thomson’s club has the sixth-best team batting average (.255) and second-best team ERA (2.92), trailing only the Yankees.
Boston is top ten in both categories, with a .248 team batting average and a 3.38 team ERA. But it hasn’t translated into wins. Alex Cora’s squad is .500 on the season (33-33) and .500 in their past 10 games (5-5).

Key players in series
Bryce Harper broke out a soccer celebration after hitting his team-leading 15th home run versus the Mets on Saturday. Philadelphia’s lineup will soon be bolstered by the return of Trea Turner. The Phillies shortstop was batting .343 before going on the IL with a strained hamstring in early May.
Rafael Devers‘ .284 batting average leads the Red Sox. Boston doesn’t have much more talent in the lineup of late. Six of the club’s 10 highest-paid players are currently on the IL.
Boston vs Philadelphia
Philadelphia is -172 on the money line while the Red Sox are +157 to pick up the victory at Fenway Park. With a miserable 14-18 home record heading into the series, Boston is -110 to cover the +1.5 run line on Wednesday. The Phillies are 18-10 on the road this season. Rob Thompson’s squad is -110 to cover the -1.5 spread.
The over/under has been set at 8 total runs. Only Baltimore (5.17) is scoring more runs per game than Philadelphia (5.11), who is also giving up the second-fewest opponent runs per game (3.45) in the majors. Boston ranks tenth in both categories, averaging 4.48 runs scored and 4.03 runs allowed per outing.

Pitching matchup
Cristopher Sanchez (3-3) is one of four Phillies starting pitchers who rank top seven in the National League in ERA. The left-hander allowed one run on four hits in his last outing against the Brewers on Tuesday. He has a 2.71 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP in 12 starts this season.
Nick Pivetta (3-4) struck out nine Braves last Wednesday while allowing only one hit over seven scoreless innings. The 31-year-old has registered eight or more Ks in four of his last five starts.
Best Bet
With two stellar starters on the mound, we’ll take UNDER 8 total runs (-110). Given the Red Sox’s recent injury troubles and struggles at home, we also like the Phillies to cover the 1.5 run line (-110) on Wednesday night.
