Phillies on fire
Philadelphia is a major-league best 20 games over .500. Looking to capture their first NL East title since 2021, the Phillies have built up a five-game lead on the Braves in the division.
After reaching the World Series in 2022 and coming just one game short last year, Bryce Harper’s club is off to its best start since 1993. They’ll host the reigning champion Rangers for a three-game set starting Tuesday.

Texas tanking
Why are the reigning champs struggling? Texas is just 12-14 against clubs under .500 this season after losing two of three to the Angels. Now they’ll have to muster their best effort against the majors’ top team.
The Rangers swept the Phillies in Texas last year, so this is setting up for Philadelphia to exact some inter-league revenge.
Phillies vs Rangers
Philadelphia is -153 on the money line while the Rangers are +140 to pick up the victory at Citizens Bank Park. Rob Thompson’s club is 19-8 at home in 2024 while Texas is a solid 12-11 on the road. Bruce Bochy’s squad is -150 to cover the 1.5 run line on Tuesday. The Phillies are +130 to cover spread.
The over/under has been set at just 7.5 total runs. Philadelphia is averaging the most runs (5.33) in MLB per game versus Texas’ 4.58 (12th). The Phillies are also top-five in opponent runs allowed per contest (3.67) vs. the Rangers’ 4.46 (18th).

Pitching matchup
Jon Gray (2-1) has allowed just four runs over his last four starts. The 32-year-old right-hander has a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB in 10 appearances for the Rangers this season.
Ranger Suarez (8-0) has the third-best ERA (1.37) in the MLB. The left-hander also leads the league in wins (8) and WHIP (0.76) and is an early-season Cy Young candidate.
Best Bet
Given the pitching matchup, we’ll take the UNDER 7.5 (-102) on Tuesday. We also like Suarez to outduel Gray for his ninth win of the season. Take the Phillies -1.5 run line (+130).
