Malik Monk
Malik Monk begins the regular season as the favorite for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
After spending several seasons as a top contributor off the bench, he returns healthy and ready to help guide the Kings back to the playoffs for the 2024-25 season.
Despite the changes in Sacramento’s lineup, Monk continues to be the second unit’s scoring and playmaking force.
Last year marked the best season of Monk’s career, with averages of 15.4 points and 5.1 assists in just 26 minutes per game over 72 appearances.

He shot 44.3% from the field, 35% from beyond the arc, and 82.9% from the free-throw line. However, Monk faces a challenge this season with the arrival of high-usage wing DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls.
If Monk shares the court with DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox, and Domantas Sabonis in crucial moments, his scoring opportunities might decrease.
Since Monk doesn’t contribute significantly in rebounding or defense, he’ll need to increase his assist numbers to maintain his competitiveness if his scoring dips due to the addition of DeRozan.
Oddsmakers have placed his odds at +450 to win the award.
Naz Reid
Naz Reid, the current NBA Sixth Man of the Year, is set to defend his title in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ recent acquisition of Julius Randle is not expected to alter Reid’s role, as Randle will take over the position previously held by Karl-Anthony Towns.
Throughout the preseason, Reid consistently performed well, averaging 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 43.3% from the field.

With an increased focus on his shooting this season, Reid’s prospects for retaining the Sixth Man of the Year award look promising.
Additionally, Reid’s win last year could work against him. There was a strong belief that Monk deserved the award, so if it comes down to these two again, the Kings guard is likely to take the top spot this time.

Bennedict Mathurin
Bennedict Mathurin has quietly flown under the radar since his sophomore season. Following an exciting rookie year, injuries prevented him from continuing the momentum he had built.

It appears he’s returning to his best form, and the ambitious Pacers will rely on his scoring ability if they aim to secure a top-four finish in the East this year.
As the team’s primary scorer off the bench, Mathurin is well-positioned to contend for Sixth Man of the Year.
Jordan Clarkson
I don’t have strong objections to betting on Clarkson, but a few concerns give me pause.
My hesitation isn’t about his performance—after all, the 31-year-old was the 2020-21 Sixth Man of the Year. He averaged 17.1 points per game last season. Instead, it’s about his current circumstances.
The Jazz are going through a transitional phase, and there are ongoing rumors regarding a possible trade involving Lauri Markkanen.

Clarkson might be included in such a deal, which could mean he finds himself starting with a new team, depending on the outcome.
Moreover, Clarkson’s availability is unpredictable, making it tough to determine if he’ll reach the 65-game threshold necessary for NBA end-of-season awards.
He has played in 61 and 55 games, respectively, over the past two seasons, and his average over the last four seasons is 65.8.
