South Carolina Gamecocks

The South Carolina Gamecocks come into the Alabama showdown on the back of an 85-50 defeat to MS State last weekend.

Things certainly aren’t getting any easier for Lamont Paris and his team. A showdown against the third-favorite to win the SEC isn’t the ideal match to get back to winning ways.

And if that’s not bad enough, the Gamecocks have to host No.2 Auburn on Saturday. The Tigers are the favorites to win the SEC at +120.

This run of matches will really test South Carolina. They have a conference record of 0-1 and an overall record of 10-4.

The conference defeat against MS State wasn’t a huge shock. Mississippi went into the match on a six-match winning streak. The Gamecocks couldn’t handle them and were simply blown away.

South Carolina found themselves 43-18 down at the halfway point. At this stage, it was simply damage limitation. And despite an improved second period, all South Carolina could manage was keeping the scoreline respectable.

The Gamecocks are joint last in the betting to win the SEC. Along with LSU, the Gamecocks are +25000.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide is having a strong campaign. Head coach Nate Oats is now in his sixth season in charge. The 50-year-old has built on last year’s successful run to the Final Four. His team has an overall record of 12-2, and they come into this match on a six-match winning streak.

The latest victory for Alabama was an impressive 107-79 win over No.17 Oklahoma at the Coleman Coliseum last weekend.

The Crimson Tide started strongly and raced into a 48-29 lead at the halfway point. From then on it was a case of game management.

Even taking things slightly easier, the Crimson Tide still outscored the Sooners by nine points in the second period to complete a comfortable win.

Following Wednesday’s road trip to South Carolina, Alabama will travel to College Station to take on the No.10 Texas A&M at the Reed Arena on Saturday. Alabama will then return to the Coleman Coliseum to take on the No.23 Ole Miss on Tuesday night. All three matches are conference fixtures.

The Crimson Tide are the +400 third-favorite to win the 2024/25 SEC regular-season. The Auburn Tigers are the favorite at +120, with Tennessee second at +275. The bookmakers must see it as a three-horse race between this trio as fourth favorites, Kentucky, are out at +1100.

In the betting to win the 2025 NCAA Championship, the Crimson Tide are the +1600 joint-sixth favorites. Nate Oats’ team is also +325 to make it to the Final Four for a second successive season.

South Carolina vs. Alabama Betting Picks

In their last ten matches the Gamecocks are 8-2. They are averaging 72.5 points, 31.0 rebounds, 13.6 assists, 4.7 steals, and 3.2 blocks per game across this sequence. The Gamecocks have also given up an average of 65.9 points over the ten matches.

The Crimson Tide are 9-1. Nate Oats’ team averaged 92.8 points. This included 41.3 rebounds, 17.4 assists, 7.3 steals, and 4.6 blocks per game. Alabama also conceded an average of 79.9 points.

The Crimson Tide have scored an average of 91.1 points per game this season, outscoring their opponents by an average of 13.7. They have scored 91.1 points per game. Continuing that theme would see Alabama cover the spread with plenty to spare.

But, under normal circumstances, we would expect having a home-court advantage to be worth a handful of points to South Carolina. The problem is the Gamecocks are in awful form. Their 35-point loss away to MS State wasn’t just a defeat, it was an absolute tanking.

We have to take that result into consideration. And that means our pick is for Alabama to win and cover the 9-point spread.
