Jayhawks lead the betting to win the Big 12 in 2024/25 season

Kansas leads the latest futures betting to win a competitive-looking Big 12 in the Men’s NCAA Basketball regular season. The action gets underway in November, and after falling well short in 2024, can the Jayhawks bounce back in the 2024/25 season? We take a look at their chances in our latest NCAAB futures.

  • The 2024/25 Men’s College Basketball season starts on November 4th
  • Kansas has been the most successful school in the Big 12 in recent seasons
  • But in 2023/24, they could only manage a disappointing fifth-place finish
  • Competition is expected to be tougher in the Big 12 this season with the conference extended to 16 schools
  • The Arizona Wildcats are one of the new schools taking place in the Big 12 this season

Betting to win the Big 12 Regular Season

After topping the Big 12 in seven (including one joint win) of the last ten regular seasons, it’s no surprise to see the Kansas Jayhawks favorite to win again in 2025.

The Jayhawks lead the betting on the money line at +250, with their closest rivals expected to be the Houston Cougars.

Kelvin Sampson’s Houston topped the conference last season and they are +350 to do it again in the upcoming season.

Other schools worth mentioning are Arizona and Baylor at +450, and last year’s second-place finishers Iowa State who are at +700.

The winner looks set to come from one of that group of colleges.

Kansas Jayhawks +250

After finishing in a disappointing fifth place in the Big 12 in the 2023/24 season, the Kansas Jayhawks hope to get back to the top of the conference in the upcoming season.

Bill Self has been at the helm now since 2003. In total, Self has led the Jayhawks to 17 regular season titles since taking charge. His record is outstanding.

But in recent years, the school hasn’t been as dominant as it was in the past. The Jayhawks have topped the conference three times in the past six years, and one of those was a tie with Baylor (in 2022).

Furthermore, the Jayhawks were well off the pace last season. They only managed a fifth-place finish with a 10-8 conference record. That’s quite a drop-off for such a successful team.

The pressure will be on Bill Self to produce better this season.

As the highest-paid men’s coach in NCAA basketball, there is always added pressure on Self. But after last year’s poor showing, the pressure will only have increased ahead of the new season.

Houston Cougars +350

The Houston Cougars were one of the better-performing schools in the NCAA last season.

Under the leadership of Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars topped the regular season conference table with an impressive 15-3 record. He also took the school to the Sweet 16 in the postseason tournament.

Furthermore, this was Sampson and Cougar’s first season in the Big 12 after the school switched following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. It didn’t take them long to adapt to a new conference.

History shows that the Jayhawks have a habit of successfully bouncing back after a poor season. But history also tells us that they haven’t encountered the Cougars regularly.

Kelvin Sampson backed up wins with the Cougars in the AAC. He also took the school to the Final Four in 2021.

Sampson’s record might not be as good as that of Bill Self’s. However, his resume suggests he will give the Kansas coach a good fight moving forward.

Arizona +450

Arizona will be looking to follow the lead of the Houston Cougars when they start life as one of the new schools in the Big 12.

Tommy Lloyd will lead the Wildcats in their new conference for the first time following the expansion of the Big 12 to 16 schools ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Under the leadership of Lloyd, the Wildcats have made it to the Sweet Sixteen stage in two of the last three seasons.

Lloyd can take heart after seeing what Kelvin Sampson achieved with the Cougars in their first season and knows that his team is well capable of doing something similar.

Baylor +450 and Iowa State +700

Baylor finished third in the Big 12 conference last season with an 11-7 record. Iowa State bettered that, finishing in second with an impressive 13-5 record.

The addition of the Arizona Wildcats will make it more difficult than ever in the upcoming season. But both schools can take heart from their performances in the previous campaign.

In addition to finishing above the Kansas Jayhawks, Iowa won the Big 12 Tournament and made it to the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in three seasons.

Scott Drew led the Baylor Bears to the Round of 32 for the third successive year.

Before three years of what can only be described as mediocrity for Baylor, Drew had led the Bears to an NCAA Championship win in the 2020/21 season. This is why only making the Round of 32 is considered a relative failure.
