The Boilermakers defeated the Crimson Tide 87-78 at the Mackey Arena on Friday night, extending their record to 4-0 this season, while leaving Nate Oats’ Crimson Tide on 3-1.
As a result of their latest victory, the Boilermakers jumped six places from No.13 to No.6 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings.

Marquette Golden Eagles
The Marquette Golden Eagles won their most recent match 78-74 on the road against the Maryland Terrapins.
Playing key roles in the victory were guards Kam Jones and Stevie Mitchell. Jones scored 28 points with four rebounds and one assist. Mitchell contributed 18 points with five rebounds and one assist.
The win was their fourth in succession this campaign.
Marquette started the season with a 40-point win over the Stony Brook Seawolves (102-62) at the Fiserv Forum. They followed that up with a comfortable 82-63 victory over George Mason at the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles’ third win of the season was a 12-point win over Central Michigan (72-60) at the Forum.
In the betting to win the National Championship match the Golden Eagles are +6500. They are +1600 to reach the Final Four and +750 fourth-favorites to win the Big East regular season.
Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue started the season with comfortable home wins over Texas A&M-CC (90-73), Northern Kentucky (72-50), and the Yale Bulldogs (92-84). All three of the wins came at the Mackey Center.
Their biggest challenge was last Friday when the then No.2 Alabama Crimson Tide came calling at Purdue’s home court.
A close first half saw the Boilermakers leading 42-40 at the break, but a strong second-half showing saw Purdue outscore the visitors by seven points to take the match 87-78.
Trey Kaufman-Renn (26 points, 8 rebounds), Braden Smith (17 points, 10 assists), and Fletcher Loyer (17 points) did the majority of the damage to the Crimson Tide.
The win over Alabama has resulted in a shortening of Purdue’s odds to win the National Championship match to +4000. The Boilermakers are +900 to make it to the Final Four.
