Miami FL

The Hurricanes started the current campaign with wins over FDU (113-72), Binghamton (88-64), and Coppin State (93-63).

That was as good as it got for head coach Jim Larranaga and his team, with his team losing their next six matches.

The latest setback came against Clemson at the weekend, with the Hurricanes losing their opening conference match 65-55 to the Tigers.

Miami can take some positives from the defeat. They did match the Tigers in the opening half (25-24), almost going to the break on level terms. And in their previous match before the loss to Clemson, Florida pushed Arkansas all the way.

The Hurricanes were 40-32 ahead at the halfway point. But again, they faded in the second half, eventually crashing to a three-point defeat (76-73).

Miami is a big outsider in all betting markets. In the betting to win the ACC regular season, the Hurricanes are +12500 (Duke is the betting favorite at -170). The Hurricanes are +20000 to win the 2025 National Championship match and +5000 to make it to the Final Four.

Tennessee Volunteers

The Volunteers made it to the Elite Eight in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Their interest in the competition ended with a 72-66 defeat to the Purdue Boilermakers.

Head coach Rick Barnes is in his tenth season at the Thompson-Boling Arena. Last season’s run to the Elite Eight is the best Barnes has managed, and he will be keen to build on that run this term.

Furthermore, the Volunteers topped a competitive SEC last season, finishing with a conference record of 14-4, and an overall record of 27-9.

This season, the Volunteers have started with eight successive wins. A lot of them were against non-elite teams and were expected. But a quick look at UConn’s recent performances shows that nothing can be taken for granted in college basketball.

The best result this season for Rick Barnes’ team would probably have to be the 15-point win over Baylor in late November. Chaz Lanier was the star performer, contributing 25 points and four rebounds.

Throughout the season Lanier is scoring 18.8 points per game with 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Tennessee is the third favorite to win the SEC again this season. The favorites are Auburn at +190. Alabama is second at +280, and Tennessee is third at +300.

The Volunteers are joint-fourth in the betting to win the 2025 National Championship at +1400.

Miami FL vs. Tennessee Betting Picks

The Volunteers have been in sensational form this season. Their wins over Louisville (77-55), and Baylor (77-62) are standout results. And in the matches against the non-power teams, the Volunteers did what was required.

The Hurricanes are on a losing skid of six. That is going to affect the confidence of any team negatively. And the teams they have been losing to, are by far, not the strongest.

Furthermore, when Jim Larranaga and his team didn’t think things could get any worse, they saw that the Vols had just been promoted to the No.1 ranked team. A double whammy. After all, it won’t do the confidence in the Tennessee camp any harm.

Tennessee is 7-1 ATS overall this season, and 2-0 ATS on the road. The result is not in doubt, Tennessee will win. Based on all the above, we have to back the Volunteers to cover the spread for our betting pick.
