- Where: Gampel Pavilion, Mansfield, Connecticut
- When: Wednesday, December 4th, 2024

The UConn Huskies are 5-3 this season.
They have just endured their worst week of college basketball in years. Coach Dan Hurley found himself and his team in the spotlight after the Huskies lost to unranked Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton.
To put that run into some perspective, UConn finished the 2023/24 season with an overall record of 37-3.
As a result, the Huskies plummeted 23 positions to No.25 when the latest AP Rankings were announced on Monday.
The rebuild has already started. UConn bounced back with a 95-45 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore over the weekend. And if it’s any consolation for Hurley, their next match against Baylor is at home, where the Huskies have a 5-0 record.
Baylor comes into the match with a 5-2 record this season. The Bears are 2-2 on neutral venues, and the visit to Connecticut is their first true road game of the season.
Given the form of UConn, the Bears will fancy their chances of pulling off a win.

UConn
Where do we start with UConn? The Huskies started the season in fine form with wins over Sacred Heart (92-56), New Hampshire (92-53), Le Moyne (90-49), and East Texas A&M (81-46). At this point, all was fine.
Then they suffered three astonishing defeats against unranked opposition at the Maui Invitational in Hawaii.
First, UConn went down 99-97 to Memphis after overtime. That could have been put down to a bad day at the office, but worse was to follow when they lost 73-72 to Colorado the next day.
And then to put the icing on the cake, the Huskies lost their third match in three days, this time by an 18-point margin to the Dayton Flyers in the seventh-place game.
The Huskies probably needed to go home after that. Thankfully (for them), that happened, and assisted by home advantage they returned to winning ways when they defeated Maryland 99-45 at the XL Center. This was more like what we expect from the back-to-back National Championship winners.
In the betting to win the 2025 National Championship, the Huskies are now out to +1600. They are the seventh favorite in the betting, having started the season as the +850 betting favorite to win the end-of-season finale for a third successive year.
The Huskies are still the favorites to win the Big East regular-season. But they have drifted in this market as well. Having started the season at +125, UConn is now the +200 betting favorite. Second in the betting is Marquette at +260, with St. John’s at +375, and Creighton at +600.
Baylor
The Baylor Bears exited the 2024 NCAA Tournament at the second round stage. Seeded No.3, the Bear lost 72-64 to No.6 Clemson in a disappointing fashion.
The current season got off to an equally bad start with a 101-63 loss to Gonzaga in their opening match.
Things picked up for the Bears, with regulation wins over Arkansas (72-67), Sam Houston (104-67), and Tarleton State (104-41).
There was then a close-fought win over St. John’s, with two periods of overtime needed before the Bears finally completed a 1-point win (99-98).
Just when things had started to go well, the Bears came unstuck against Tennessee in the Baha Mar Championship final in the Bahamas.
The Bears lost 77-62. The game looked over at the halfway point with the Vols already 47-20 ahead. Baylor did fight back in the second period, but the damage was long done by then.
Some form of normality was restored when the Bears defeated the New Orleans Privateers 91-60 at the Foster Pavilion last week.
Baylor is +1400 to win the Big 12 regular season and +4000 to win the 2025 National Championship match.
UConn vs. Baylor Bears Betting Picks
After such a poor run of results, the UConn Huskies could have done with a run of matches against the likes of Maryland, but unfortunately, they have a far stiffer task in the Baylor Bears.
A fourth defeat in five matches is unthinkable, but there is a genuine possibility of it happening.
But with home comforts to help them, we feel that the Huskies will beat the Bears. It is a risk, but so is a bet on the Bears. We think that if you are going to bet on UConn, it makes more sense to back them on the spread at -110.
If you want to play safe, then a bet on over 145 points looks the better option. If UConn is conceding plenty of points again, that total should easily be covered.
