The Alabama Crimson Tide looked to shake off an upset loss to Vanderbilt (40-35) earlier this month when they faced South Carolina in Week 7. While Alabama walked away with the win, the game was close, with Alabama coming back to put up 13 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Gamecocks by a score of 27-25. The Tennessee Volunteers were in the same situation. After dropping a game to Arkansas (19-14) in Week 6, they wanted to bounce back in Week 7, but they needed overtime to beat the Florida Gators 23-17 in Week 7. This game will be meaningful for both teams as far as a playoff berth is concerned.
Alabama sports a 5-1 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the SEC heading into Week 8. The Volunteers have the same record as the Crimson Tide. The teams are tied for fifth place in the SEC.

Alabama betting breakdown
This could be a game where Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe could shine. If Tennessee can’t get to him, he could put up some big passing numbers in Week 8. For reference, Taylen Green went 19 for 27 with 266 yards and 0 interceptions in Arkansas’s win over Tennessee. Milroe is a more skilled quarterback than Green, but he has a similar style, and better receivers to throw to.
One problem facing Alabama’s offense is that their opposition has been able to figure out the game plan and adjust to any changes in game. If Alabama doesn’t change things up on the offensive side of the ball, Tennessee will be ready for them on defense. Alabama also needs to limit turnovers. They have given up four interceptions and lost five fumbles. One thing the team should do is hand the ball to Jam Miller more often. Miller is averaging 10.0 yards per carry and has 51 carries on the year.
Alabama is in the middle of the SEC in total yards per game with 442.3. The team ranks seventh in passing yards per game with 263.2 and seventh in rushing yards per game with 179.2. The Crimson Tide averages 41.7 points per game, third in the conference.

Tennessee betting breakdown
The Tennessee Volunteers have had a good defense this year but have not been very good at preventing the opposition from completing passes. The Tennessee defense has the skill to give Alabama fits this weekend.
The problem with Tennessee is not the defense, it’s the team’s offense. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava has not had a 200-yard passing game against an SEC opponent this year. Iamaleava will need to rely heavily on his top two receivers in this game, Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Squirrel White. Thornton has nine receptions for 295 yards, and White has 20 receptions for 230 yards. Look for Iamaleava to target those two often and the hope is they can use their skills to put up some yardage after catches..
Tennessee has scored 25 or fewer points in its past three games, and it took them until overtime in Week 7 to break the 20-point threshold. That’s something the Volunteers need to improve on in a big way. The offensive line needs to protect Iamaleava better and give him time and space to make plays. Iamaleava is 94 for 143 this year in passing, with 1,219 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Tennessee’s offense is third in the SEC in yards per game (484.5), 11th in passing yards (238.3), first in rushing (246.2), and second in points per game (42.2). The team’s defense is second in yards allowed per game (249.3), fourth in passing (170.2), second in rushing (79.2), and third in points per game (10.7).
