Two of the top teams in the SEC meet on Saturday night in Athens when the Tennessee Volunteers face the Georgia Bulldogs. The Week 12 game has College Football Playoff repercussions, as a loss for the Bulldogs is likely to knock them out of playoff contention. As for the Volunteers, if they fall, their playoff hopes will rest on unsteady ground. Tennessee enters Saturday’s game as the No. 6 team in the AP Top 25, while Georgia is No. 11 in the most recent poll. These teams have met 53 times over the years with Georgia leading the series 28-23-2. The Bulldogs have won the past seven meetings, winning 38-10 last year.

Tennessee Volunteers betting breakdown
Look for Tennessee to give the ball to Dylan Sampson in this game. Sampson is first in the SEC in rushing yardage (1,129) and touchdowns (20). He’s by far the most used running back in the conference, getting 201 attempts this year. The second-highest number of touches belongs to Diego Pavia of Vanderbilt who has 159. Sampson’s stellar play has made up for some of the shortcomings of freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who has been a bit slower to develop than was initially hoped for. Iamaleava has 1,879 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions on the year.
Tennessee’s defensive line puts a lot of pressure on the opposition, with James Pearce having 5.5 sacks this year. The Volunteers need to pressure Carson Beck, as he has been prone to mistakes over the past few weeks.
Tennessee averages 471.6 yards of offense per game with 236.4 yards passing and an SEC-best 235.1 yards rushing. The team averages 37.6 points per game. On defense, Tennessee gives up the second-fewest yards in the conference at 271.2. Of those yards, 171.6 are in the air, and 99.7 are on the ground.
Georgia Bulldogs betting breakdown
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is a concern heading into Week 12. Yes, he is No. 3 in the SEC in passing yards (2.488), But he’s also first in the conference in interceptions with 12. Especially glaring are his recent numbers. Over the past three games, Beck has thrown for two touchdowns while giving up seven interceptions. He’s also been sacked eight times in those three outings.
The Georgia defense needs to be ready for Sampson. The Bulldog’s rushing defense gives up an average of 111 yards per game. If Georgia can shut down Sampson and force Iamaleava to throw the ball, things will lean toward Georgia, especially if they can make the Tennessee quarterback uncomfortable and force a lot of long third down attempts.
On defense, the Georgia line needs to hold strong, which they have done a good job of this year.
The Bulldogs are in the middle of the SEC in total offensive yards, averaging 410.6 per game. The team picks up 286.4 yards in the air and 124.1 on the ground. The Georgia offense averages 30.8 points per game. As for defense, Georgia gives up 306.6 yards per game, with 195.6 in passing and 111 rushing.
