Ohio State betting breakdown
Ohio State struggled to get its running game going against Nebraska, picking up a total of 64 yards on 31 carries. The team must improve on that number if it hopes to establish a rushing game against Penn State. One thing Ohio State will likely need to do in Week 10 is give quarterback Will Howard some options. Don’t be surprised to see Howard, who had 351 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns with Kansas State last year, running the ball in this game.
Ohio State needs to focus on stopping Tyler Warren on the offensive side of the ball. The Penn State tight end is a threat, racking up 559 yards receiving on 47 catches. He has added 40 yards in rushing on seven carries. Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles will be tasked with defending Warren.
Ohio State averages 471.9 yards on offense per game with 283.9 passing yards and 188 rushing yards. The team scores an average of 40.3 yards per game. On defense, the Buckeyes allow 254.4 yards per game with 163.1 of those yards in the air and 91.3 on the ground. The defense is only giving up an average of 11.9 points per game.
Penn State betting breakdown
The biggest question facing Penn State is if the team’s starting quarterback Drew Allar will play against Ohio State on Saturday. Allar suffered a left knee injury late in the first half of the Wisconsin game. He then reported that he did not think he would be effective playing through the injury in the second half. Sophomore Beau Pribula took Allar’s spot in the second half and completed 11 of 13 passes with a touchdown. Penn State coach James Franklin said the call as to who will play under center against Ohio State could be a game-day decision. Allar is in the top 10 in the league with a QBR of 83.6. The junior QB has completed 71.3% of his passes for 1,640 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions.
Penn State has a good pass rush, expect them to test the depleted Ohio State offensive line in this matchup.
The Nittany Lions offense averages 463.7 yards per game with 266.6 passing yards and 197.1 rushing yards. The team picks up an average of 33.3 points per game. The Penn State defense gives up 267.6 yards per game, with 174.6 of those yards in the air and 93 on the ground. Penn State surrenders an average of 14.3 points per outing.
