On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies play for the first time since Texas defeated Texas A&M by a score of 27-25 in November 2011. That game ended when now-Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker kicked a 40-yard field goal to put Texas up with three seconds left in regulation. A spot in the SEC Championship game is at stake on Saturday in Week 14 of the 2024 NCAA football season. Here is some background on the teams before we look at the pivotal Week 14 NCAA football betting breakdown.
The Texas Longhorns (10-1, 6-1) are the No. 3 team in the college football rankings. The Longhorns’ only loss came in October when they fell 30-15 to the Georgia Bulldogs. Texas comes into Saturday’s game following a Week 13 win over the Kentucky Jayhawks (31-14).
The Texas A&M Aggies (8-3, 5-2) are the No. 15 team in the rankings. The club opened the season with a 23-13 loss to Notre Dame. They picked up their second loss of the season in early November when the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated them 44-20. In Week 13, the Auburn Tigers handed the Aggies their third defeat of the season by a score of 43-31 in overtime.

Texas Longhorns betting breakdown
The Texas Longhorns have had a good, but not great, offense this year. However, the team’s defense has been excellent and consistent throughout the season. With this being a road game for the Longhorns, it will be up to the defense to stand strong while the offense looks to find its footing against a hostile crowd and a strong Texas A&M defense. The defense should be able to give the offense some room to get settled, considering Texas A&M is a run-heavy offense and the Longhorns do well against those types of teams.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers could struggle early at Kyle Field, but the junior should be able to find his groove pretty early in this game, as this is not his first big game under center. If you couple that with the play calling of Steve Sarkisian, things look good on the offensive side of the ball for the Longhorns.
The Longhorns are the more established and mature team in this matchup, and that matters.
Texas A&M Aggies betting breakdown
The Texas A&M offense is run-heavy. Don’t expect that to suddenly change in Week 14 of the NCAA season. With that in mind, the Aggies need to establish that running game early if they hope to come out on top in this matchup. That could be a problem since the Longhorns’ defense is one of the best in the SEC against the run, allowing just 104.0 rushing yards per game.
Texas A&M needs to set up the team’s freshman quarterback Marcel Reed for success in this game. They need to play a team game and not rely on Reed to carry the club in this matchup. That’s a big ask, but one way to do that is to keep the defense guessing as much as possible, which is tough to do this deep into the season. The two players that will need to be at the top of the game on Saturday are leading receiver Noah Thomas and top rusher Amari Daniels.
The Aggies have a good defensive front that should be able to pressure Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. However, the defense has a tendency to allow at least one big (over 50 yards) pass play per game as of late. They can’t let the Longhorns have that type of opening.
