- Washington (5-2) is a 2.5-point home underdog to the Chicago Bears (4-2) in Week 8
- Jayden Daniels is “week-to-week” with a rib injury after hurting himself in a 40-7 win over the Panthers
- The NFC battle will kick off from Northwest Stadium in Landover, MD at 4:25 pm ET
Sunday’s matchup was expected to feature the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, in a nightmare scenario for TV executives at CBS, who flexed Sunday’s game to a late afternoon kickoff, Jayden Daniels is questionable to play after suffering a rib injury on his first play from scrimmage in Week 7.

Daniels goes down
Jayden Daniels injured his ribs on a 46-yard run in the first quarter of the Commanders’ 40-7 beatdown of Carolina. Before going down, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had put up mighty impressive numbers this season. Daniels has 1,410 passing yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions while leading the league in completion percentage (75.6%). He has also run for 372 yards and four scores.
If Daniels misses the game, Washington will turn to Marcus Mariota, who completed 18 of 23 passes for 205 yards and two TDs in Sunday’s blowout win.

Caleb turns the corner
Caleb Williams passed for 226 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-16 Week 6 massacre of Jacksonville in which he also scrambled for 56 yards. Coming off a be week, the No. 1 overall draft pick is just behind Daniels for Offensive Rookie of the Year in the betting markets.
After just six games, Williams is already tied with Jim McMahon for the most TD passes (9) of any Chicago rookie QB. And with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze in his receiving corps, there should be plenty more to come.
Washington vs Chicago
Chicago is a 2-point road favorite and the over/under is set at just 43.5 points. Both the line and game total suggest that oddsmakers expect Daniels to miss Sunday’s contest. Washington is averaging 31.1 points per game – tied with Baltimore as the NFL’s top scoring offense.
While Mariota performed admirably in a Week 7 win over a miserable Carolina team, the Bears defense will present an enormous challenge. Chicago allows the fourth-least points per game in the NFL (16.8), limiting opponents to 180 passing yards a week (No. 7).
New on @guardian: The @ChicagoBears have a self-induced quarterback curse that goes back to World War II. Based on the show so far, Caleb Williams appears to have everything required to break it, once and for all. https://t.co/k8NQ0HqzEq

Best Bet
Chicago’s four wins this season have come against teams with a combined 6-20 record (.231 winning percentage), while the opponents Washington defeated are just 10-25 overall (.286).
In a battle of two teams being overrated by casual bettors, we’ll pick the one with the healthy starting QB. Take the Bears (-2.5) with the UNDER 43.5 points.
